How to remove coolant before remove intake?

Total coolant drain Remove the knock sensors as well as opening the radiator drain. Sounds like a lot of work but it's worth it. Remove the fill cap to speed draining. You may have to poke the hole after removing the knock sensors as they really get scaled over. There will be a flood when the...

    Help! Cooling Fan(s) Help Needed

'95 cooling fan removal Sorry for the late info; the wife is having the carpets replaced and the whole house is 'tossed' so it took a while to find the FSM. You should be able to diagnose the fans without removing them. But if they must come out, here it is. Yes they come out the bottom. Be...

    Help! Cooling Fan(s) Help Needed

'95 radiator fans On a '95 the two fans are wired in series for low speed (that means there are 6 volts across each fan). For high speed the fans are wired in parallel so there is 12 volts across each fan. The fan relays accomplish this. So if you've got only one fan running in low speed, the...

    Creaking left wheel.

Noisy pads Paul, I'm guessing the pads based on experience with sporadic noise from pads on many different cars, especially when there's no 'anti-squeak' sprayed on the back side. The link in the earlier post is similar to what I've used, very successfully, to prevent or stop squeaks. My son's...

Question: No real "wind" behind the AC

A/C wind If you have the C68 electronic A/C control, the fan speed is controlled by an electronic controller. More often than not, there's crud on the inlet side of the evaporator. Real PITA to get at and clean. The inlet side is next to the passenger side of the car (not the side toward the...

    Creaking left wheel.

Removing ball joint rivets It's a lot easier to grind off the rivet head than it is to drill it. Just be careful to avoid grinding the A-arm. If you have a compressor, you can get a die grinder cheap at something like sHarbor sFreight, about $10 on sale. Cuts steel like butter. I've also used a...

    Creaking left wheel.

Creaking wheel How new are your pads? If worn significantly, there's a 'chirp' tang on the pad backing plate that's supposed to sound off before the pads are totally gone. Often the tang works better one way of rotation than the other. Or it could simply be noisy pads. My son's car has one...

blue smoke only when I open it up?

Oil puff when opened up It's likely the oil pressure sending unit (behind the distributor) or a rocker cover leaking. Either would send oil down the bell housing onto the exhaust. Really difficult to see back there. If you could get it up on a lift, you could see better.

The 1991 L98 engine problems continue......

Shuts off after 3 seconds I once had a Buick Regal with your symptoms. One of my kids had given me an FSM and after several days of searching about in it, the advice was to check the ground to the coil pack (it was OK) and then the ECM. I don't know what your year Corvette calls the computer...

I AM A NEW CORVETTE OWNER

Go faster Welcome to a great forum. Lot's of help, with or without searches. If you have an automatic, it likely has a 2.59 rear. You can determine that by looking up the RPO codes that are usually under the arm rest or inside the cover behind the passenger seat. I don't recall RPO (regular...

    96 rear end sways

Rear sway Welcome to a great and friendly site. Lots of good info. Check the tire pressures. If they're OK, you likely have a shot bushing, a de-laminated belt or need a 4 wheel alignment. Kyte's alignment in Rising Sun MD (way up north near the intersection of Rt 1 and 273) did an outstanding...

Question: Power locks and PKE fob

PKE operation marcusr69 your fob is working normally. The PKE system will automatically unlock or lock the doors if it is 'active'. Holding the door key for about 2 seconds until the locks fully cycle either activates or deactivates the PKE. Doing this with the key in the ignition changes...

    Help! coolant leak

'Leaking' coolant The white coolant reservoir should supply coolant to the pressure tank (black) upon cooling. The pressure tank may feed coolant to the reservoir when hot. If there's a crack in the neck of the pressure tank or, more likely, the fitting to the hose leading to the reservoir...

    Tie rods.

Rear tie rods They are for adjusting the rear 'toe in' during a good 4 wheel alignment. Set 'em and forget 'em, until you hit a massive bump. If they're loose, get new ones and a 4 wheel alignment. Good luck

Help, replaced brake pads and they "chirp"!

Brake chirp I always use spray on the back surface of the pads for anti squeal. It's really gooey stuff that keeps the pads from slipping around on the caliper piston or the outside 'nose'. Look at the old pads to see where the contact surfaces are. The stuff I have is Permatex 'Disc brake...

HOW TO COMPLETELY DRAIN FUEL TANK?

Very Carefully Gas fumes will explode or burn very rapidly after settling to any low point where you are working (had the hair burnt off my legs more than once) so take precautions - no open fires, cig's, etc.. Two people are almost a necessity. And have plenty of containers to catch the liquid...

    Help! Unusual engine sounds

Welcome Welcome to a great forum and good luck buying your first real car. Are these cars in Canada? The black one appears to have DTRL or 'day time running lights' but the red one not. Aren't they required in Canada for these years? And how much is the asking price? If it's $12-$14,000 eat...

    Question: Time to Flush

LT1 Bleeder Yes, that's correct. And the earlier ones evidently had two bleeders. Based on some posts (including photos) regarding two bleeders, I spent several long back aches trying to find the second bleeder before my manual arrived.

    Question: Time to Flush

Drain the block Yes, remove the knock sensors. Pinch the electrical connector to remove the wire then unscrew the sensor. If it truly hasn't been drained - ever - there may be lots of crud at the end of the threads. If no liquid comes out, poke the hole in the block with a screw driver and get...

Help! Can't take this engine oil leak any more!

Oil leak up high in rear of engine Yup, oil pressure sensor. There are two of them. One feeds the gauge and the other feeds the computer to turn on the "Check Gauges" light if pressure is low. They are such a bi.ch to get to, I'd replace both. Good luck.
