I have a dumb question. I know what the tie rods do in the front end but what in the world do they do in the rear end? I see in my FSM that they connect to the differential carrier, but why? You do not steer the rear end right? Any help will be appreciated.

Paul

PS: Are the rear a pain to replace?

Independent rear suspension needs to be aligned occasionally.

Rear tie rods

They are for adjusting the rear 'toe in' during a good 4 wheel alignment. Set 'em and forget 'em, until you hit a massive bump. If they're loose, get new ones and a 4 wheel alignment.
Good luck

Thanks fellas. I ALWAYS learn something here and I appreciate it.

Paul

Most of the C4 suspension was designed by Dick Guldstrand. It was designed so the hard core track enthusiast can adjust it for specific tracks and conditions (though few people do) If you get new tires, you should definitely have them re-set by someone who knows what he's doing. You'll really notice the difference.

I replaced my front out tie rods yesterday and had an alignment today. The OEM's (I think they were OEM's) didn't have a zerk fitting! The old ones came right out, didn't even need a puller. The rubber was so deteriorated it literally fell off the tie rod. The tie rods were so loose they were flopping around like a fish on a line. The new ones are beautiful. Now to do the rear.
