    Vintageair thoughts?

I believe I selected classic auto air, I would have to go back and see. The biggest concern I can was with the controls, I wanted to keep them in the stock location and this worked well. With the exception of the heater core tubes being bent wrong the system was ok to install. I had the motor...

    Vintageair thoughts?

I went with an aftermarket ac system for my 72. Rather then mention the company I would just say do your homework and compare the systems. Some use the console controls others had controls mounted under the dash. There is a lot of work removing the original heater box on both sides of the...

1974 corvette with a leaking transmission

You should have a TH400 in your '74,which is one of the best and strongest 3 spd automatics Chevy used. It is not common or acceptable to have a oil leak. I would find a good trans shop, these were very common and a good shop will have no issue correcting it.

Do all new Richmond Ring and Pinion gears make noise ?

Very good information as it sounds like you are in the business. Regarding Richmonds, from my experience, I HAD good setup with them in the past but won't use one of the new sets. That last set was dialed in perfect yet it was terrible. The Tom's gears were night & day difference. This is for...

Do all new Richmond Ring and Pinion gears make noise ?

I don't know how you are talking to but there are 336 gears made by other companies then Richmond. Richmond, Yukon, Motive, and Toms ( US Gear) all make vette gears but only Tom's are made in the USA. The others may even rebox his and sell them. Many vendors use Tom's and rebox, some tell you...

Lingering Issues After My Corvette Rebuild

I agree on the alignment and possibly loose toe shims for the TA.

Help! 1980 Brake pedal going to the floor-getting scared

If the brakes are good after your garage bleeds them and you loose them a few days or weeks later the typical reason is the rotor runout as the others mentioned. If you are new to old corvettes this has been a problem since 1965 and many times is created by the first person working on the brakes...

    Steering gear box

1- Check alignment 2- Check/adjust power steering control valve- out of balance will cause a faster feel in one direction over the other. Loose steering, binding steering 1- Check front end parts, should be part of a good alignment 2- Check the rag joint for looseness, wear, "S" shape 3-...

Knocking / tapping sound in rear. Watch this video to hear...

If your bearings were that bad you would feel them once the car is jacked up. They would be rough spinning and noisy. Play at 6-12 is typically axle endplay in the diff. Play at 3 - 9 is inline with the bearings. If you can move the spindle in by a lug stud there is too much end play in them. If...

Knocking / tapping sound in rear. Watch this video to hear...

That is the area of the 1/2 shaft. Check the u-joints for rust and play in them. They should be tight. Make sure a cap didn't come out of a joint, I have seen that happen when the clip pops out. Check for play in the bearings. loose or broken shock, loose exhaust.

SUSPENSION UPGRADE FOR SBC350 roller cam+ weiand144 supercharge

Mike has a very good point. I won't even get in my son's car, I'm not as flexible as I once was and those racing seats are killer! The car is basically a 10 sec blast and driving it for 30 minutes will beat you up. The bullet mufflers are louder then side pipes and while this car is very...

SUSPENSION UPGRADE FOR SBC350 roller cam+ weiand144 supercharge

My son has that setup on a 75 only he added Nox. If you push it hard, and why build it to over 500 hp if you are not going to, you need to upgrade the drivetrain from the flywheel back. It's that simple. I build these all the time. With my sons setup he broke a prepped 10 bolt diff, 2 super T10...

Help! 1980 Corvette Transmssion and other problems

Check the shifter cable. Brakes, pulling usually means the opposite caliper is leaking. Look for brake fluid on the inside of the tires. Check the MC for a low chamber. If the brakes need work you have to go over the whole system. If the fluid looks dark or muddy you probably have...

    C3 Brake and PS Questions

Sounds like there is moisture in the system and if the calipers are original you're going to need a complete brake kit to resolve it. Look at Muskegon Brakes packages, I have used them with success. Look at the hard lines for signs for rust.

    New member/new C3 owner

That's what I would do too. Every vette has issues, you'll know soon enough what needs your attention.

    Help! Replacing rear wheelbearings

I agree, first how were they checked. These bearings were and still should be a press fit installation. There are many places that do them, myself included, but you should do your homework before you commit. Pricing is all over the place and there are those using cheaper parts and cutting...

    68' rear noise, metal shavings

Remove the tire tub, exhaust, spring- to cut the weight, strut rods, 1/2 shafts, support the diff using a jack or small trans jack, disconnect the driveshaft and front bracket, pop the cross member loose and drop the diff and cross member as one. Typically 3 hours or so depending on how well...

    68' rear noise, metal shavings

Hi Frank Sorry for the delay, I just stopped back here. Why do rebuilders replace axles? Well that depends on the rebuilder. I replace them if needed only. Here is some history on the 63-82 vette diffs. First there wasn't a real good one in the whole run. Every year has certain issues so the...

    68' rear noise, metal shavings

Greg If you have an original '68 diff with posi then it has the 1st design Eaton posi and those were very prone to cracking and as time goes by will break. I had Jack Panzica in here a few weeks ago with the '68 diff out of his '66 and that is what happened. The posi cracked and finally split...

    Question: 1973 muncie rebuild

The iron mid plate is a good upgrade. Some have been back ordered on/off. Another upgrade I like to use is the larger front bearing kit. I have built them with a rollerized 1st gear for road racing cars. The bearing side covers are new from Auto Gear and are a nice part but if your cover has...
