Replace wipers with OEM ones. Wiper problem solved.
As for different things cropping up on your car, it's just part of the territory of having an older car. Car's don't last forever. They're mechanical. And mechanical things break down over time and usage. Then, you've got many owners that...
Not trying to be a smart ass.
I've never seen blue smoke. Blue flame yes. But blue smoke? Just wondering.
Can you smell burned oil from the exhaust? Does it creat lots of soot around the muffler tips and bodywork near the muffler tips?
I have a 1991 L98 with 40k miles on it. Yeah. It too was hardly driven by its original owner.
My car too started running rough and wouldn't hold idle so I took it to the Chevy dealer since I knew of nobody else in my area. Diagnosis: Bad #8 Fuel Injector. Replaced: $300 labor; $147 for...
I have a set of Dynomax stainless steel dual flow mufflers and their Y-pipe with a connector. My car is an '91 L98 automatic.
The exhaust sounded great at idle, but surprisingly, it's not that much louder than the stock exhaust at normal cruise speeds. It does have resonance between...
Congrats! :upthumbs
I agree with the guys. Get the car sorted out completely before going to any mods to "improve performance". You may find that getting the car as close to the factory tune as possible WILL give you improved performance. As a car gets old, the less likely its owner(s) will...
My Corvette has a similar powertrain to yours. I fitted mine with a freer flowing cat-back exhaust from Dynomax. Looks great. Sounds great. And it's suppose to add maybe 5 bhp to it. I also put a K&N air filter and K&N Metal Open Top filter housing. Maybe got 1 bhp from that. Finally, I put the...
I already did! Well, about $10k anyways.
I would the following:
1) new paint job
2) new suspension and bushings
3) new interior
4) new stereo
5) new wheels and tires
That's all assuming powertrain is in good, strong condition!
Great responses! Thank you all.
I thought it may be emissions related. The Owner's Manual HINTED at it but didn't say that was it. Go figure. At least now, I know where to get started to get this thing rectified. Might as well change the oil and filter too.
Thanks again everyone. I'll...
The Service Engine Soon warning light has begun to go on in my 1991 L98.
According to the owner's manual, I should take the car to get serviced immediately. However, it doesn't explain why it goes on or what it normally goes on for.
At first, the light went on for a few seconds while...
The Bose amps is ON the speaker plates. Where the speakers screw into. They look like circuit boards. As for putting together a hybrid system using both aftermarket and factory, I'm told it's not worth the effort. Some say it won't work! Either completely rebuild/replace the factory system...
Agree.
Unfortunately, most people are cheap and so they buy the cheaper, Chinese stuff. In fact, when I tell people I look for the Made in the USA label, I get ridiculed. :eyerole
I believe stock Corvette exhaust dimensions are 2.25 inches from the rear Y-pipe to the mufflers. Where the Y's connect I think is 3". This seems reasonable for stock pipes. If the Magnaflow Y goes into a single 3", then that's the correct diameter.
In any case, just removing the Cats...
I agree with some of the guys here. Keep shopping.
Something is seriously wrong with that car.
When it can't idle smoothly, worse case is fuel injectors have gone bad. Those Cross-Fires are notoriously difficult to tune and hard to find those who know how to tune them right. Fuel smell on...
Damn! What a catch. Nice car.
I too have a '91, which I bought a year ago. Yours has everything mine has except mine's an auto. Mileage-wise we're about the same. Mine had 32k miles when I bought it.
The FX3 indeed has the yellow Delco-Bilstein shocks with cockpit adjustment. Yes...
The reason why automatics in Corvette's is so prevalent is because GM made the auto standard and the 6-speed an extra cost option. That's because they know most buyers can't even drive a freakin' stick shift! So guess what? Many Corvette's will be autos.
Also, a superchipped L98 will NOT...
Buy the newest Vette you can afford.
But the 1991 L98 is probably the best L98 Vette you can buy. It has the most current C4 body style, updated interior, and the most power from that engine. And yes. The L98 has more torque and develops in earlier than the LT1. Plus, the L98 doesn't have the...
It only works at Wide Open Throttle, and high RPM's. You'll get more out of it if you have an LT1 that makes its maximum power past 4,500 RPM.
All by themselves, you won't notice anything. But do they actually work?
Well, in the later half of the 1980's when the SCCA created the Corvette...
