Quick Question: Jacking up our Vettes

Most important is to block the front wheels! (When jacking up the front, the rear wheels are blocked by the transmission, but when lifting the back, the front wheels must be blocked from the "outside")

Quick Question: Jacking up our Vettes

I put my jackstands in front of the front wheels, just next to the sway bar mounts. When I tried different positions, this didn't cause the body to flex as much. (But it also depends on what part of the car you will be working on.)

    Front shocks nova/camaro

Does the 1st gen camaro and nova front shocks fit the Vette? I'm looking at these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2449732990 but I'm not sure about the application list, as far as I know the KYB # should be different (KG4550).

    interior light problem

Yes but how do you get the lightbulbs? What have kept me from getting into this is that it seems like the whole dash needs to be taken down...

    tach problem

tiguido, Pull the tach cable from the distributor, and spind the cable inside with your fingers. If the tach needle moves fine, then the problem is propably inside the distributor.

    Ah, ofcourse! Thanks!

    Steering knuckle arm - help!

Here it is (spindle arm). Well, it looks from the picture that the end is pointing slighly upwards.

    Steering knuckle arm - help!

No, I'm talking about the spindle itself. The "arm" on the spindle that connects to the tie rod end. I had the spindle apart, but now I forgot which arm that belongs to wich side... The other parts of the spindle is marked R/L, but not this one.

    Steering knuckle arm - help!

Thanks, but it is not visible in this picture. What I am talking about is the outer part of the steering knuckle assembly, that attatch to the tie rod end (just behind the tire).

    Steering knuckle arm - help!

I've forgot how it was mounted, and there is no good picture in the assembly manual: Should the end (where the tie rod end connects) be higher or lower than the mounting bolts? (i.e should the end be pointing upwards or downwards)

    Steereing knuckle bolts

What is the correct torque for the steering knuckle/arm/caliper bracket assembly bolts? (one short and two long ones) Also, are the two lower ones (the long ones) supposed to have washers? I cannot find a picture of this in my assembly manual. Thanks /Johan

    caliper seals??

Ok, got the pistons out (and a large squish of brake fluid in my face...). Found that the calipers was ss sleeved, so thats good news. Pistons w/seal look like this (photo), and I assume they are the lip type, correct? (the seal is not an o-ring, but u-shaped)

    caliper seals??

No, the pistons aren't frozen, I can move them back and forth. (And the brakes did work great, I just discovered a little leak when I tore down my suspension) But my question is what holds the pistons there? Is It just the outer seal that holds the piston in place, and should this pop out when...

    caliper seals??

Well I dont have access to air, so I just tried to pull... hard... but no result. Is there a trick, or should I just grip the piston and pull as hard as I can? Can the o-ring type replacement seals and pistons be fitted to calipers without ss sleeves? Redoing them to SS means sending them to...

    caliper seals??

Someone please straighten this out to me... I have my front calipers off and split, but have not yet removed the seals. How can I tell what kind of seals/calipers that are used? Are there three different types of calipers; original, O-ring and SS-sleeved, or does SS always have o-ring seals? The...

    Control Arm Bushings

I just used a regular rust-preventing paint applied with a brush, and covered that with a layer of gloss black spray paint (wheel paint actually, supposed to be more durable). Nothing fancy, but it looks ok.

    Control Arm Bushings

$16 per bushing?? Are you going with poly or rubber? The rubber ones can be a bit tricky, but if you are using polyurethane they are pressed in by hand, no need to do that in a shop. You just need a small drill to get the old rubber ones out.

    Control Arm Bushings

Yamafan/SteveL: Seem like you used the same method, and i'll be trying this when re-installing. Only thing that concerns me is the diameter of the rod, it must fit thru the shock-mount hole, right, so then it must be rather thin i guess, or? (I wouldn't like it to snap...) Well, I havent made...
