Origina Gas Tank Label worth anything?

It's the latest, but hopefully not the last... :D

    Coil spring labels

Thanks Tom, it makes sense. Strange though that Corvette Central (my source above) has completely different labels.

    Coil spring labels

When removing my front coil springs, I noticed they were labeled "MA". Correct labels for '74 is (if I'm right) supposed to be EA (for HD susp.), HT (for normal) or HV (for big block). I have the 7-leaf gymkhana rear spring. Anyone recognize the "MA" label?

    L82 Indentification

If you just look at a photo in an ad: The L-82 had aluminium valve covers with "flanges" or fins on top, L-48 had stamped steel valve covers. (I know, they can be changed, but still)

    Control Arm Bushings

The coils spring can me removed without a spring compressor, but be sure to take EXTREME CAUTION. Raise the car high, put a floor jack under the lower a-arm and compress the spring slightly. Separate the a-arm/ball joint from the steering knuckle, and SLOWLY lower the a-arm until the spring is...

    Control Arm Bushings

If the engine is in the car or not does not make much of a difference here. What you have to do in the engine bay is to remove the radiator shroud, and maybe also move or remove the alternator. If you do everything yourself, then there is no major cost involved. If everything comes apart eaily...

Is the 74 vette the red-headed stepchild of C3's??

I guess it will never be as appreciated as the 68-73 steel bumper cars. I would say that the '74 have some advantage over 75-76 though, because these have not dual exhaust and also have less power.

    New transmission and new tires

Chris, Look at zwede's (forum member) page, he has some good pictures and info of a transmission swap and especially the shifter installation. http://www.corvetteforum.net/c3/zwede/71corvette/71vette.htm /Johan

    New transmission and new tires

    255/60-15 are 255 x .60 = 153 mm high 225/70 15 are 225 x .70 = 157.5 mm high

Just bought a Vette, need help!

Congratulations to the new Vette! I think you can find the answer to most questions in previous posts. It is for sure much quicker do do a search, than for people to write their long posts again... :D Anyway, if we start with the tach: A cable to your tach is connected to the distributor...

    A-arm bushing replacement

I need some thoughts about the bushing replacement. I have a set of poly bushings to go in, but I have not yet removed the old outer shells. They do have some scratches, so I would prefer installing the new shells, but how hard is it really? Seems like most people go to a machine shop to do...

    Spare tire questions...

Re: Weight Ratio Of course it will be lighter in the back, but I guess the difference is not that big if you consider how the overall load of the car can differ (car with a thin driver and empty gas tank VS. a car with a fat driver and a fat passenger and full tank). What is the front/rear...

    New ball joints

Ok, I was confused when I saw the rivet set sold separately, but maybe that's just if you want to keep it original.
  15. Johan

    New ball joints

I will buy them from the states, so that's where I'm looking. Corvette Central and Zip, for example, sell them without anything (at least there is no info), and then you can buy rivets separately.

    New ball joints

Well, where should I get them? I want to purcahse the ball joints (the upper ones) with fastening bolts, but it seems that most places sell them with rivets, wich I don't want. Also, there seems to be quite a price range, is there any difference between the $25 and the $50 ones?

    Not sure what I want

A C4 might be a more dependable car today, but in 5-10 years? I like electronics, and I like cars, but they shouldn't be mixed :D. A C3 would no doubt be a better investment. Most C3's (and for sure the early ones) will just climb in price. For $25k you can get a nice chrome bumper (pre -73)...

New seat belts - Who can supply?

Andover Restraints: http://www.andoauto.com/seat_belts.htm They make (correct) belts for corvettes, but I've also heard people using their "late model factory replacement" (cheaper) in corvettes.

    spring or shocks

Remember, you can also adjust the ride height with the spring bolts. This might cure the problem a bit, but if the spring is shot you would still want to replace it.

    interlock linkage/backdrive cable

I think you should be able to push the cable, try to lubricate it. It might be the case that the cable is partially torn off (and thus you cannot push it). I don't know if it's made of a solid wire, or several twined?
