    Why get hot over miles?!?!

Scott and Tom, Exactly my fears as well. But I'm checking the simple stuff first because more often than not, is. The radiator had three hairline cracks and two tubes nicked. Plus, there was always a quarter-sized puddle in the garage after parking Gail in it overnight, from a leaking drain...

    Why get hot over miles?!?!

Yeah, one daughter worked for the dad a good 15 years. She is the main tech. The other one is administrating, I think. But it was obvious a ploy to make their worthwhile and suckering me into a new core. I was like, well excuse me if I don't want to be your cash cow or golden goose. Lmao...

    1.6 rollers under oem covers?

Peter, of course, there is always,"cheating". Depending on the geometry and all that, perhaps a thick gasket could help. I bought some thick valve cover gaskets that are about shy of a 1/4". However, I have standard 1.52 rockers with roller tips. Needless to say, it would involve experimenting.

    Why get hot over miles?!?!

Yes. I figure that the other shop was perhaps so busy that they did not want to bother. Their dad retired, so now the daughters are running the shop. I just wish they would have told me that they were too busy to bother with my radiator. I learned that they specialize in big radiators like for...

    Why get hot over miles?!?!

I dropped off the radiator at another shop. This one is a 71 year old guy that specializes on old car radiators (like early 19 century cars). He showed me how my radiator core is fine. There is one small leak in one of the tubes near the left tank though, but he said that would not be a problem...

    Why get hot over miles?!?!

Scott, Back in those days some folks were adding hitches to their Vettes. My understanding is that the dealership installed the old hitches, not like the ones in todays trucks. (200 lbs tongue weight at most). And here is how many had the option:

    Question: Radiator 1981 Corvette

I was hoping that perhaps the L-82's 2-5/8" radiator was basically the same as the ZN1 for the L-81. I'm still fighting re-coring the radiator only because mine only has 7K miles of use on it. I found a guy in Los Lunas (about 45 minutes south of me). and I explained the situation to him, and...

    Why get hot over miles?!?!

Usually Prestone. Changed four times since 2007, but refreshed a lot more lately with the problems I have described. Here is a shot of what it looks like now inside. second shot

    Why get hot over miles?!?!

Yes, I'll install new ones, Bill. :thumb:thumb Coincidentally, I just got a call from Dr. Rebuild. Doc himself researched it, and the ZN1 radiator nor replacement exists. He suggested I re-core. I'm sure I can fit another radiator, but hanging on to originality, or at least the appearance of...

    Why get hot over miles?!?!

Bill, Do you mean the foam seals? There are remnants still there. But having the bigger radiator masked the problem, I suppose. Perhaps with a 3-row regular radiator it is indispensable, but with the four row radiator, never a problem before. But you are right. I plan to put new ones when the...

    Question: Radiator 1981 Corvette

6-year revival of thread...lol First, let me start by saying that my Vette has the ZN1 option that came with the thicker radiator. So overheating problems for me is a relatively new experience. I have been having overheating problems, and so I finally pulled the radiator one more time, and...

Good-bye to my old friend AO

I was going to try moving heaven and earth for a 2014 in this green, but with the dark claret interior. I still had a small window to place a factory order, but I could not believe the number of dealerships dragging their feet because they wanted to sell me one off their lots. You've got...

    Why get hot over miles?!?!

I replaced it last before pulling the radiator. In fact, I thought I had fixed the problem. Perhaps that is why it seems to run fine for four to six hours. And it ran slightly higher. :( The radiator shop called me yesterday and suggested i buy a new core. And I was like,"but this core may have...

Old Corvette Parts shop going out of business

Hello everyone, The owner of Carter Corvettes in Livermoore, CA told me four years ago that he was looking to retire and close down his business. Well, it is happening this year. This guy swapped the calipers in my Vette back in 1986, to stainless steel coated ones, and they are still...

    Why get hot over miles?!?!

Hi folks, Upon returning from Bud's Roast, Gail began to give me problems again. Getting hot after so many miles. It's been a problem i have been chasing for a while. The usual scenario is me driving Gail cross country somewhere. She'll drive fine 4 or 6 hours, and then, the water...

    Hi beam stuck on

Fixed. Amazingly how work it involves just to adjust/tightened it in its place. lol:L Here are some shots: A view across top of column: View of dimmer switch. The switch is on left side of steering column, about 9 0'clock. Here column is hanging about an inch and a half off its support...

    Hi beam stuck on

Yeah, the column has to be lowered because that same plate that covers the ignition switch, covers the bracket portion (and screws) for the dimmer switch. :)
