    Bodywork on a '76

Your only option is to replace the bumpers with fiberglass ones. Bolt them on with bonding adheasive, grind, and then fiberglass the seam. Mike

    Front cover gasket TH350

John, Yes I am assuming about the front bushing. If you are daring you can change it yourself. You have to split the pump apart. Getting it back together is the tricky part. Let me know if you want me to go into more detail. If you pull up on the front clutch hub when removing the pump you could...

Thinking about R12 to R134 conversion on my 84

First you will need to flush the entire system. When the compressor goes bad it fills the condensor and the hoses with debri. All that must be cleaned out along with all the old oil. Change the orfice tube. Use the r-12 tube, not the 134 tube. Change the accumulator. You will need 8oz of 150 pag...

    Conversion/Upgrade

I hate to be the wet blanket here. The only problem you will have is with state inspection. Although you will be excempt from tailpipe testing in three years, you still have to pass the visual emissions. EGR valve, A.I.R. system, thermostatic air cleaner, frech air hoses, and vapor recovery/EFE...

    Computer

Richard, Turn the key on,engine off. Jump the ab terminals on the aldl. The mc solenoid should start cycling. If it does it's not the ecm. The mc won't cycle if your fuel mixture is too rich or lean. Hook up an analog dwell meter to the open green connector under the hood. With the engine...

    Front cover gasket TH350

John, you had the right idea in the other post. Stand the trans up. I use an old grease barrel (16 gal) to drop the trans in. Mark the pump to the trans. Hold the center shaft down while pulling the pump up. The gasket and oring you can do yourself but I would take the pump to a trans shop and...

Hi John, Along with the front seal is the pump gasket and o ring. You may also have a worn out pump bushing and/or grooves in the torque converter. Mike

    A couple questions

Hi 1969, You have a rear valance from a '68 on your car. So now you have 4 back-up lites. As for the console and doors, if you like them, use them. There are very few "all original" vettes out there. Mike

    replacing the ECM

Hi Kevette, The ECM is not a hard job except they put it in the worst place possible. Changing the prom requires a lot of care. Let me know if you need any help with it. Mike

    Original tranny or m21 ?

Hi Sparky, The m20 and m21 are identical except the m21 is close ratio with a 2.20 first gear. No performance gains but it will be a little harder to get going from a dead stop. What part of Texas are you in? If you need a second opinion on your trans I can check it out for you. Mike

Help - Need a new Carb

Steve, As Alan mention the Edelbrock Quadrajet is an excellent carb. It's 795 cfm, electric choke and a direct bolt on. I've have installed several of them and they work great. I have not seen a brand name rebuilt carb worth installing. Ask Blackdog about the nitemare he went thru. Mike

Newbie w/ fuel system & general questions

Hi Ragnarock47, Standard tire size is 225-70-15 with 255-60-15 being an option. Sometimes people get tire rub on the front fenders with the 255's. Check for rust in the gas tank and on the throttle plates in the carb. If you are familiar with quadrajets pull the top off and look for...

    What's This Knob?

Hi CS72, That knob turns off the wiper motor while the door is open. For instance if you want to change the blades. Turning the ignition off will not stop the wiper motor. Mike

    Newbie Question

Hi Skip, Vettes in Dallas are expensive. I found my '69 in La. Where to look? Everywhere. Autotrader, newspaper, ebay, friends of friends. I came across two of mine by accident. If you are not concerned about the year that makes it a little easier. 1968 has many unique and expensive...

    Engine assembly question

Hi Thumper, On engines that are going to sit for awhile I use a 50/50 mix of stp and 30w. Coat everything during assembly and then fully prime it. Turn the crank slowly while priming the oil pump until the rockers start flowing oil. Then bag it up airtight and reprime it before installing...
