Hey Grumpyvette are you still around? The reason I was asking is that I am getting ready to replace the engine in my '78 Pace Car. I will be keeping the stock engine and I need to preserve it and the TH-350 transmission. Your post on preserving engines...is that still the best way to do it? Is...

Thanks grumpyvette. I drained the engine oil Sunday. i haven't refilled it yet. i thought I'd get some really light weight Castrol (10w-30) put the normal 5 qts in, start the engine and let it run up to normal temps. Then add an extra 2-3 qts as you said. Is it a good ideal to put a small...

    The engine project is underway...

While you have the engine out you could rebuild the front end...new bushings, ball joints, shocks, and such. Also clean up the engine bay a little. That is what I plan on doing while I have mine out. That way she will look like new under the hood and drive like it too. :w HD

    Engine Cranes

Yep... got my engine lift from Advanced Auto as well. I also bought an engine stand from them at the same time....but it didn't have ANY of the hardware to put it togather. So after 2 weeks of waiting for hardware I took it back and got my money back. Went right across the street to the AutoZone...

    Bowtie Overdrive 2004R

You bet, and I'll mot likely be tapping you guys on the shoulder for advice. This should be an interesting project since Todd will be a co-worker on the project. He is looking at coming down to the OBX in March to help with the install....that is if everything does according to plan. Of course...

    Bowtie Overdrive 2004R

Thanks Bob and Evo. I think I'm going to go with the 2004R. I'll be picking up the new engine this week in Charlotte, NC from the builder. So I'll ask the questions about the TC. I hope to have all of the big stuff (engine, tranny, new radiator, headers, and front end bushing set) by the...

    Bowtie Overdrive 2004R

Thanks Lightingrod. The engine has the Edlebrock RPM performer RPM setup with a 600CFM carb. My plan is to change out the carb to a 750 CFM and get about another 20 horses out of it. You are right in that the 3.08/700-R4 is not an ideal setup for stoplight to stoplight performance. I hope to...

    Bowtie Overdrive 2004R

Sorry for digging this old tread up. At least I did a search before asking my questions:D. I will soon be ready to do a few minor up grades to the Pace Car. I've already purchased the engine. I picking up a 384 CID built by Tommy Johnson Sr. (420 HP and 457 TQ) next week. My next quest is the...

John, sorry to hear the news about the job situation. I've come to the conclusion in my life that there are 2 folks you have to keep happy. Number one is the wife, number two is the boss. I work so I can support my toys. So keeping the boss happen ensures that you have a job. Maybe...

A real Pace Car, Opinions Welcomed

The reason I like the '78 PC is that not only are they the 25th anniversary model, but also a PC replica with their very own VIN. I was born the year the corvette was introduced. So this car represents several milestones in my life. First, I had just finished my tour in the Navy (Nov. 11, 1977)...

A real Pace Car, Opinions Welcomed

That's what I'm talking about. Now that is one hell of a pace car. Very capable of giving the Indy drivers a run for their money;LOL. On another note...I called the place that has the engine I want (Tommy Johnsons Motorsports Warehouse, Denver, NC). Turns out they have what sounds like one...
