    EGR delete

Are you saying if I plug my hose leading from the EGR to the canister will result in a vent issue with the gas tank?

    EGR delete

Well, that diagram confirms what my thoughts were. the hose that splits off goes to the vacuum canister. I want to get rid of this to reduce the clutter of vacuum hoses, and the EGR as well. My guess is that it's not functioning anyway, and if it were the function seems gratuitous as far a...

    EGR delete

I want to delete the EGR from my 79. There is a vacuum hose that leads from the EGR to the front of the intake, then it goes to the carb, but it splits off before the carb, and goes where? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

    Correct wheels on my 79

The wheels I have are polished, not brushed, so they must be 80 - 82 wheels. I like the way they look, and they don't look out of place, so I'm gonna call it good. If I had my choice, I'd go with rallies, but it''s more expensive to get wheels, rings, center caps than to buy the optional wheels...

    Correct wheels on my 79

Boy those are nice! Mine look like 80-81, but of course mine is 79, and I just can't help to wonder how they got there. BTW the inside of the slots are painted.

    Correct wheels on my 79

Just to clarify Doug, the part of the wheel I'm describing is the inner most part where the lug nuts are.

    Correct wheels on my 79

I recently picked up a 79 Vette in very good original condition, but I noticed the wheels, the slotted aluminum ones do not have black centers like they should have. Maybe they put 1980 wheels on at the plant, or someone put them on afterwards. Anybody ever seen this?

    Side pipes

Have you considered 1 5/8" long tubes to chambered exhaust out the back?

Pull toggle switch under steering column

Oh well, When I got my first Vette, I wanted to take a hacksaw to the vacuum switch. I thought bubba put it there, then I figured out what it did.

    Replacing lighter "scocket"

Thank you Frank, I was hoping not to get that invasive, but I'll check it out.

    Replacing lighter "scocket"

I am attempting to remove the (female) part of the cig lighter. I was told by the vendor that it unscrews, but it just seems to turn around and around. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Can rearend gears be gauged by speedometer/tachometer?

Thanks Tom, I checked the GPS app with two of my other modern cars, and it was spot on, so I can say I have confirmed the speeedo is off in the Vette by 3 mph. This spring I will have it on a hoist and turn the tires, count the turns. Maybe even replace the drivin gear. Thanks again.

Can rearend gears be gauged by speedometer/tachometer?

Just a foot note to this thread, I checked my speed using GPS app, and it shows that I'm going about 3 mph faster than my speedo says. Possibly the gears were changed since L48 Vettes in 79 only offered 3.55 to 1, and the wrong driven gear was installed, or the GPS was off. Going by GPS I...

Can rearend gears be gauged by speedometer/tachometer?

Well, at 60 I was at 3000 rpm. according to tire chart I found, with 225/70/15 tires they should be 27.4". So according to the chart you provided I have 4.11's. If that were the case, the gears were probably changed or the factory tach is less than accurate.

Can rearend gears be gauged by speedometer/tachometer?

Thank you Tom, I scoured the net for something like this. I know there are codes, and rpo's but gears can be changed. Thanks again.

Can rearend gears be gauged by speedometer/tachometer?

Yes, It is best to count the turns by spinning the tire, although I don't have a lift, or a floor jack. Thanks, I'll figure it out.

Can rearend gears be gauged by speedometer/tachometer?

I'm trying to figure the gearing in both of my Vettes. I'm revving about 3000 at 70 mph in my 77, and I rev 3400 at 70 with my 79. So far I've read that in 79 L48 with automatic trans came with 3.55 to 1, but it seems like it has 3.70 to 1. Maybe the previous owner changed ring and pinion, or...

Turn signal indicator lights do not work, in my 79

Well, my backup lights work, the turn signals work also but the green dash lights that indicate do not. I am concerned that the dash will have to be removed if the bulbs are burned out.

Turn signal indicator lights do not work, in my 79

Ok, so there is a fuse for just those indicator lights?
