    Rocker Stud

Why are you pulling a head to replace one stud? Pull the old one using the washer/nut trick. Buy a threaded stud at any major auto parts store, tap the hole, and screw in the new stud. You can do it in an hour and not remove the head. IF you want the fancy hex studs, you do have to...

    Rocker Studs

Here's a pic of the jig used to replace studs. Borrowed this from a friend when I did mine. You can buy the studs at any professional auto parts store. Chuck

    Rocker Studs

Funny story about me. :) Had the heads on my 63 done about 10 years ago. The guy who did them was a friend of mine. He insisted on replacing the original press in studs. I told him I didn't like the idea, but he ASSURED me it would be OK. He'd NEVER had a stud pull out. Watched him do...

    Piston Slap and now what???

My 2000 has piston slap, especially when cold. Goes away when the engine heats up. Just about every C5 I've listened to has piston slap on start-up. My 00 is nothing special. Base/unmodified engine, automatic, performance axle. Runs 13.50's at the strip consistently, AND you don't...

Rear Leaf Spring Torque and Bolt Size

:) Be careful. The bolts in the front are tapped into blind holes, whereas the bolts in the back (in your picture) are tapped through. IF you have bolts too long, and you try to force them in the front, you'll break through the casting of the rear end case, and create an oil leak. You've...

    Need old door hinge instructions

You might have troubles taking the top pin out. Often, as you pop it up, it will not clear the fender. This is especially true with tight bushings. A trick you might need to try is to grind the top cap of the pin. It looks like an "O" originally. Grind one side so it looks like a "D"...

    68 front grilles

I had to double check the 68-9 NCRS JG. According to the current JG, it states: "Front grilles consist of three black plastic pieces with horizontal bars. For all of 1968 production through January of 1969, the leading edges of these bars are painted silver. In later cars, the grill is all...

    68 front grilles

I do believe that all 68's and early 69's had silver on the leading edge of the grills. Chuck

$90.00 In Glue And Counting...Almost As Much As The Carpet...!!!

I'd take a guess that somewhere along the line, somebody freshened up the appearance of the carpet with spray dye. I think that's what you're seeing when you wipe the carpet with a wet rag. I've done this myself a few times on my 63 with a black interior. Chuck

new addition to the family :)

Congrats, Barry. You're now a member of the "2 Corvette Club". :) They grow on you. Pretty soon you'll have 3, maybe 4. :) You'll enjoy this one too. As others have said, they're different animals from the midyears. MUCH more complicated electronically, emission wise, etc. NICE...

    Paint Chip Repair

I touched up some chips and scratches down on the rocker panel area. Followed all the directions. Let it dry, etc. When I sanded and buffed the area, the Langka paint would just come off, leaving the chip there. AND... :) I did use a "sanding board/buffing board", not my fat fingers...

    B-J Auction

At the end of the Speed Channel coverage, they announced approximately 100 MILLION in sales over the 6 days of the auction. 100 MIL. Absolutely amazing. Chuck

    Raise the rear

I agree. I'd replace the 4 rubber donuts. That'll get the rear back up. Chuck

    Clutch Job

HOW TRUE this is. This has happened to me twice within the past 10 or so years...not on my cars....but helping friends with their projects. Chuck

How are your midyears running on todays pump gas??

My 69 427/400 (hydraulic lifter) engine runs fine on 93 octane. My 63 with 11.25:1 compression runs fine on it too. I think it's a "non issue". I do occasionally put 5 gallons of CAM 2 in the 63, mainly because I like the smell. :) Chuck

    Old town Fla.

I'll be there too, along with Mrs. Chuck. :) Arriving Wednesday...leaving Monday AM. I'll be out and about in the swap meet, maybe judging a day or two, and hanging with the Vetteheads and other assorted Corvette friends. MIGHT even make it to Disney for a day. :) Chuck

    Midyear Aftermarket Custom Body Panels

Need some info. Went to a friends Corvette shop yesterday. He's building a 67 coupe "street machine" for a customer. Has a 572 BB and a 5 speed installed in the rolling frame. Body is off. The car is getting a frame off resto. Two questions: First, the original 67BB hood won't...
