well, I found a deal I just couldn't pass up.
You can see what it is by looking under the "My Corvette" underneath my avatar pic and also the addition in my signiture.

looks like Baby, my '65, will have a new friend to keep her company in the garage.
I just made a deal on a '78 L82 with only 9489 original miles.

unfortunately, because it was driven so little during it's life it's been a bit neglected and needs some work - it needs new paint badly and the engine bay needs a lot of clean up to manke it presentabe but the frame is super solid and the interior is in overall good shape.
I'll fix it up to the condition it deserves. i'll be doing the engine/engine bay work myself but the paint I'll send out to be done. Good news is that while the paint is bad, the body itself is perfect, not hits, and no cracks and the stainless trim is all in great shape.

if interested, you can see some pics of the car here on my website. These I took about a month ago when I first went to look at the car after hearing about it. It's sitting in the sellers driveway where it's sat for the last year completely untouched.

Since the '65 is almost done and almost in the condition I want her to be in I figured it was time for a new project. :D Yep, I must be a glutton for punishment. ;LOL

I guess it's time the C3 forum gets to see a taste of what some of my threads can turn into......... ;LOL

Barry

PS: hey Bob, I DID mention my '65 a few times (even bold typed it), can this thread stay here? :)

Good for you Barry!:upthumbs From a few repairs and lots of questions to tackling another project. Sounds like a good deal! Good luck and we're looking forward to your future threads so we can all learn more with you.
Doug

thank Doug :)

i'm sure many are thrilled to hear that my questions and "famous" threads will be in another forum though ;LOL
I better order up the NCRS book for these years and a shop manual

Some more of Barry threads, on the way !!!!!!!

Good for you Barry!!!!!!!!!!

Stay tuned to the CAC for Barry and the 78 Corvette restoration threads…This will be fun and highly entertaining. Just kidding

That is great news!!!!!!!!!

Congrats Barry, on the new addition!!!!!!!

I'll be watching the forums here to see the progress. I can't wait to get a deal like that and have a nice project for me and my son, someday. :_rock

Congrats Barry,
Looks like your wife will have a toy also.
I hope after this weekend I can post a similar thread,I'm car shopping as well.

Barry,
Can't see the pics but I am sure that is one fine example of a 1978. I drove a 1979 for 17 years and enjoyed it very much. They are fun cars!

As for cleaning up the engine bay, take pics and get the factory Helm manual. Let just say things under the hood are ... complicated.

Here are the two.

Ho Boy this is just too funny, You just crossed an interesting line. You cant have enough vettes Barry and it seams as soon as you purchase the secound one the third and fourth are much easeyer to convince your self and family that you actually need them.

"Price was to good to pass up"

"it matches the other car"

"Now youll have one to drive to the show with me"

" It doesnt cost that much to insure"

"It will be a collectors item some day"

I could go on but i wont.

Best of Luck and Enjoy

thanks for the kind words everyone! :beer

sorry that the link didn't work but I redid it in the first post so hopefully it will work now.
If I still get replies that it's not working I'll move the page to a different section of my site.
If the link gives you problems, just go to my website (address in signiture and on my profile), go to "Corvette pages", than to "Other Vettes", than to "'78 Vette - project car".

I know I have a LOT more learning and asking questions in the C3 forum now since I'll be dealing with pollution/emission componets and the C3 vacuum system while I try to clean up the engine bay.

Meanwhile, I'm thinking just how cool it will be to walk into the garage and see TWO Corvettes in there that are mine! :)

Barry,
Once you get to understand the EGR, PCV, EFE, TVS, and AIR components it isn't so bad ;). At least it doesn't have a "Check Engine" light.

Paul, they are small 3-letter words so I should be able to handle that. if they were big long words to describe the componets I might have been in trouble! ;LOL

EFE=early fuel evaporative
PCV=positive crankcase ventilation
AIR=air injection reaction
TVS=thermal vacuum switches (2 or 3)
EGR=exhaust gas recirculation

Plus catalytic converter. Nice car needing but some TLC that I am sure you will give. Get used to the word Shark; you now have one. My younger Brother now has mine and we have some great times together (see pic above for a charity event last summer for a young fellow with bone marrow cancer.)

New Baby

Congrats on the new car. When I brought home my 66 and parked it next to my 68, the 68 got mad and ****ed antifreeze at me. So be careful! If you had fun rebuilding the Holley, wait until you get into the Quadrajet. When they work they are sweet. When they don't work, you want to put needles in your eyes. Best of luck. Jerry

Great buy Barry

Congratulations on the purchase of your new Corvette :upthumbs Barry, not many of those around with such small numbers on the meter. Best of luck with your new learning process.

If you keep this up ( different platforms ) you will definately turn in to a Corvette Garu.

Good luck

Stepinwolf

Congrats, Barry. You're now a member of the "2 Corvette Club". :)

They grow on you. Pretty soon you'll have 3, maybe 4. :) You'll enjoy this one too. As others have said, they're different animals from the midyears. MUCH more complicated electronically, emission wise, etc.

NICE cruisers. Chuck
