Welcome to the Corvette Forums at the Corvette Action Center!

new addition to the family :)

Let the games begin....congrads on your new purchase, and best of luck with it. 78 - 82 are the best body design, I even like them better then the chrome bumper years. You are going to have a ball with the rubber hoses and wires...your new best friend will be Dr. Rebuild...he has the best in hoses etc...again best of luck.

Hi Collin

actually, I prefer the chrome bumper C3's but hey, a good deal is a good deal.

yeah, all those hoses and wires under the hood are a bit intimidating compared to the simpler engine bay of out C2's but i'm ordering up a shop manual and NCRS book for the car and just like my '65 i'll take it one step at a time, phot document EVERYTHING as I go along so hopefully I'll be able to get her back together again.
The hoses all seem to be in good shape but most of the fittings will need clean-up along with most of the metal parts as they have oxidized over the years. From what I can determine, it won't be much $$$ to clean up the engine bay, just a lot of time and elbow grease. i'll remove and glass bead and repaint as many parts as I can and others that aren't painted I'll clean up via gladd beading, scotchbrite pads, or just Simple Green and other cleaners best I can depending on the part.
I'm not sure how to best clean up and make look better the power brake booster as that looks to just be plated and I'd rather not have to remove it but i'll deal with that when I get to it.
I think the biggest problem will be trying to remember and figure out how and where all those hoses get reinstalled! :D

I think the very best news for all you guys is ............. my threads on this will be in the C3 forum and not in here. ;LOL ;LOL

that doesn't look like fun Paul!!!

I just ordered today the shop manual, 78-79 NCRS TIM&JG, wiring book, and '78 AIM so at least I'll have those references to have as I work on her.

my goal on the engine bay is the same as I did on my '65 - to just make it look as good as I can without having to pull the motor

Morning Barry...

I would suggest you write an article for the Vettester about how u found your new purchase...members would be interested in how it came together and pics of the car....It's an interesting find, kinda like a "barn find".

Wonder how many other vettes are out their, this close to my house where I had NO IDEA they existed..probably a good number.

I know of another one too........... been sitting in a barn under piles of hay for years.
I need to get down and talk to the owner.
Don't know whether it a C2 or an early C3 yet, the person who used to board their horse at this barn and told me about the car could only say that she saw an emblem on the car that said 'Stingray". I don't know if the Stringray was spelled as one word or two and she didn't remember.
In either case it could be a cool find! :)

Only about 25-30 minutes from my house too!

I don't want to go down yet until I can afford to make an offer on the car whatever it is or else the owner may decide selling it is really a good idea than sell it before I have the money for an offer. In the meantime I'm told he isn't interested in selling and it's been there for years so i'm sure it will be there a little longer anyway.
