Welcome to the Corvette Forums at the Corvette Action Center!

new addition to the family :)

John, I sent you a PM

Jerry, don't jinks me like that. I already have enough problems with my cars without needing more! :)

Bob, that's one of the main reasons I bought it - the low milage. I don't think anyone has any worries about me becoming any kind of Corvette Guru unless it's being a guru of long threads and asking tons of questions.
I'll find out soon enough if the C3 are as patient with all my questions and long threads as everyone here in C1/C2 has been :)

Chuck, yep, a new club, but I have a long ways to go before I can join you in the "4 corvette club" :D
I know i'm going to have a LOT of new things to learn as Paul above is already making me known. Linda already likes it and it's not here yet but with the auto trans, power everything and A/C she should be able to enjoy it.
hmmmmmm, I may be needing to call you for use of your blasting cabinet again if you are willing. take a look at the motor pics and you will understand! :)

You can come and blast away anytime. :) Just bought some new beads. The cabinet is cleaned up and rarin' to go. Chuck

Holy Moley!!! What a great find. You've been pretty sneaky keeping that deal under wraps... ;)

Gonna be ready for Carlisle this year? Guess you don't need AC in your car anymore.... Linda has her own..

Holy S_ _ T.......

You better start your own forum.!!! "Barry's Corvette Action Corvette Forum Center"

:L

Congrats Barry... Guess this will be Linda's Ride...Get her the shop manual and in roll her in an Auto Mechanics course..Now you can Blow out the Garage wall and expand the work bench into the living room.

I can see it now ..In line Block boring machine .. Crankshaft lathe...Baking oven to clean blocks...etc..:L

Look out C-3 Forum.... Here Comes Barry....:L

Barry,
All kidding aside, I learned a few things about the late C3s after driving one for 17 years. Do not hesitate to ask questions.

Hi! Barry

I believe that you were warned about buying all them tools. Now you had to find a new project to use them on. Congratulation on your new Corvette and I look forward to following the progress on the 78.

Ray

Chuck, great talking to on the phone again. I'm sure I'll be giving you another call and heading down soon.

Paul, yep, couldn't pass this one up. I still want/need the a/C in the '65 but after this lastest developement it looks like that will have to get pushed back until next winter. The '78 is going onto the fasttrack and I hope to get it completed as quickly as possible.

Mark, we will see if the C3 guys have as much patience for my threads and tons of questions as you guys have been! :D

Paul67, thanks, i may be needing to take you up on that offer as things on this car are way different than I was getting used to on the '65. D*mn there are a lot of hoses under that hood!

Ray, yep, more uses for the tools and new toolchest. I must really be a glutton for punishment you know. I'm already pulling things back OFF the '65 because they weren't quite right and now in a few weeks I'm going to have a whole different car to have to start learning from scratch. I must be insane!

Well, i know this car is a C3 and you guys are C1/C2 guys but you all know I'll be taking LOTS of pics as I go along and I'll be posting them up on my website as I do so if you have any interest in the progress or just as entertainment and you all need a good laugh just keep checking the website! ;LOL

Congratulations, Barry. I'm happy for you.

thanks Bob!

and thanks for letting the thread stay even though it's not really C1/C2 stuff
:beer

Oh boy, have you given fair warning to the C3 forum people? Just kidding Barry. Congrats on the new addition. What a surprise. I didn't know you were looking. Sounds like you did your homework and found a nice low mileage no hit car. Makes me jealous as I am Vette-less right now. Best of luck to you and Mrs. Larry. :)

Nah, I figured I'd surprise them with my now "famous" threads and endless questions just like I did almost two years ago to everyone here in C1/C2. ;LOL ;LOL ;LOL

I just hope they have the same patience with me that all of you guys do. :beer

What a difference a couple of weeks make! Back then you couldn't afford to have the distributor in the '65 recurved and now you've gone and bought yourself a new distributor with a low mileage Corvette attached to it! :D

Actually Terry, I just pulled and sent out the distributor from the '65 to get it recurved.
The '78 is a completely different story and there is a bit more to it than meets the eye in some ways, next time I see you I'll tell you about it :)

of course, Linda and I may not have grocery money for the next couple of months now.......... ;LOL ;LOL

The even better news is that one of the other guys in CCND contacted me via email (he never comes to the meetings) about the "wrenching group" idea I put out a month or two ago, and he has a full shop at home, with a lift, air compressor and tools, etc, etc, etc.
Maybe we can use the '78 as a group project! Having a lift could get real handy.
Oh wait, I don't have to tell YOU that, you already have one :D

The labour rate for wrenching groups is very reasonable:
-oil pump
-rear main seal
-waterpump
-double roller timing chain and gears
-front seal and gaskets
-one-piece FelPro oil pan gasket
-all new drive belts
-new rad hoses
...for one large combo pizza and a dozen softdrinks.

Paul
those are the kind of labor rates I can afford!

not to mention the extra benefit of getting together with a bunch of great guys and friends :)

That was about a 10-hour job. So at about $80/hr at a shop....That is of course if you can get a shop to work on a Corvette and if you do, they know what they are doing.

One of the problems with later C3s is the lack of accessibility to just about anything. You have seen the engine top above. For the bottom end work I am referring to you have to drop the exhaust system to get the oil pan off (the pic below shows why). Post-1974 cars had a 2-1-2 exhaust to accommodate the single catalytic converter. If you have frozen pipe joints or corroded manifold studs this can become a very nasty job. Fortunately my system was only a year old (and studs too) when the pics were taken. I had flirted with a set of 1969 sidepipes at one point and almost went deaf so on went a new stock system the year before.

I have over 1,000 pics of that 1979. So as I mentioned earlier do not hesitate to ask questions. Not that you would hesitate ;) .

well, I found a deal I just couldn't pass up.
You can see what it is by looking under the "My Corvette" underneath my avatar pic and also the addition in my signiture.

looks like Baby, my '65, will have a new friend to keep her company in the garage.
I just made a deal on a '78 L82 with only 9489 original miles.

Congratulations Barry..

Welcome to multiple corvette ownership!:beer

thanks, but I'm not even close to catching up to the level of cars you have in both numbers and quality! :)

Thank you for the kind words but you are way too humble.

There is no question about Baby's quality!
She is a drop dead beautiful car thanks to all the TLC given by you.

I'm sure that soon your new vette will also be concours quality!

Here's to you and the road ahead!!

Enjoy...
:beer

thanks :)

I'm just trying to make Baby a halfway decent car the best I can manage.

the '78 is going to be a LOT of work under the hood to make her presentable and than getting her painted. sheesh, why do I do this to myself? ;LOL
