The easiest way to put a suitcase in a convertible is to pop the rear part of the top, fold it up, then pop the hatch, place the suitcase in and reverse the process.

That discoloration is normal, my 89 has it too. Most people purchase paint from a Corvette Aftermarket Vendor and repaint them. To tell you the truth, my valve covers are pretty even in color and I like the looks. Oh well, I'm am a little off. :L
