I just bought an '88 vette convertible with 71k miles. I have never own a Vette with high miles. The aluminum valve covers are discolored, browish, more so on the drivers side. I noted on ebay the used aluminum valve covers listed were also discolored. Was there a problem with the engine in the pasted that I should worry about. Can I have them bead blasted and clear coated. Any ideas?

That discoloration is normal, my 89 has it too. Most people purchase paint from a Corvette Aftermarket Vendor and repaint them. To tell you the truth, my valve covers are pretty even in color and I like the looks.

Oh well, I'm am a little off. :L

Here's what I did for mine, there are a few pics of mine in this thread.

I just re read your post and these covers are not aluminum, they are magnesium, and they are painted from the factory, the brownish color is apparently the fact that the metal is porous and the oil discolors them. They cannot be polished trust me, read the whole thred above.

Hi, I'm new to this site, and I have a question about valve covers also. Can they be powder coated? I've been thinking about doing the plenum and valve covers either white, blue, red or orange. White because the cars white. Blue because the interiors blue. Red, well just because it's red, and orange because that's the color of Chevy engines.
