    Getting the serpentine belt on

Okay ... I'm a little confused or you have different setup on your engine. The tensioner is mounted on a fixed bracket and keeps tension on the belt with a strong coil spring inside a housing. That housing includes an arm that has the roller wheel on the end. On the face of the roller wheel...

    Getting the serpentine belt on

Same here ... I used a 1/2 inch breaker bar on the tensioner and then a large flat-tip screwdriver to feed it over the lipped pulleys. Went in pretty easy.

Keep the level up - Your fuel pump will last longer!

Another good reason to keep her topped up is fuel weight. The pressure at the bottom of the tank is higher when a few more gallons are sitting on top and it helps push the fuel through the pump, assisting the turbine and reducing wear on the pump. Less important than the cooling, but another...

    Fan relay (cooler engine)

My '84 has essentialy the same set up and I had, essentially, the same cooling problems. Even after I installed a new temperatrure switch, the car would overheat in traffic and over time I had to put in a new radiator and fan and relay and then the whole circuit went on the fritz and I was down...

    Ls1 into an 86 vette

I found a web site where a dude stuffed a dual-turbo 454 into his '91 and it looked pretty awesome. I also found one in Florida where an '85 Vette was converted with a '98 engine and that looked very good, too. But I'd have to say we're in agreement about the LS1 and it's variants. Of all...

    Ls1 into an 86 vette

It's certainly a grabber. You look at it once and it won't get out of your head ... LOL! BTW - I see you have a big fat Rat of your own ... a 454 ... and you seem to be an advocate of the LS-X motors. I've always been a Rat fan and had my share, even a couple wedges back in the day (348 and...

    Ls1 into an 86 vette

You have some nice links, Dude, but I gotta tell ya somethin' ... your avatar is creepin' me out. WTF is that? Someone's face Photoshopped onto a Yorkie?

    84 Corvette Engine Changes

My '84 has had its share of built-in surprises. I guess it's because they were so new and all the bugs weren't worked out yet. The only Cross-fire problem I've had is a new TPS. Once that was dailed in, it runs fine. The biggest trouble areas were power steering and cooling. I went...

    Ls1 into an 86 vette

74BB - That looks intriguing. They also have them cubed-out pretty big, too ... biggest I've seen is 427. How much punching and stroking will it take ... LS1 to LS7?

    question about synthetic oil

Aircraft are required to use only synthetic fluids because it is significantly more reliable, more efficient and, most of all, less combustible. Regular oil is made from petroleum and then manipulated with refining and additives to provide it's characteristics. It will eventually break down...

    Ls1 into an 86 vette

How about a Rat motor? Engine management needs are easy to tailor to Mouse wiring and engine mounts are identical. Exhaust will be tight, but a good set of headers has to be out there somewhere, or have a set custom built. Go for an aluminum blck and heads for weight reduction and beef up the...

    396 BLOWN STROKER!!!!

New guts for the old body I always thought C4s should either get a Rat motor or the new LS blocks to really wake 'em up. You're gonna have a bunch of us C4-conversion wannabees watching close. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay freakin'; cool, Dude!

GM - Here is what we think of the License Plate Mount

It seems like the dealers are on board with this issue, too. They understand what the customers are thinking and adjust happily, not just for the repeat business, but also because they tend to agree with the problem.

2005 C6: A Subjective Look at the Next Generation of Corvette

I think the C6 design got a bad rap before it was revealed to the general public, mostly because the trade magazines ran so many cheezy, Photoshopped C5 sneak previews that people linked it too close to the C5 before they ever saw the real deal. I agree with the general concensus here that...

    Recall...Roofs Flying Off

Since they admitted this small error, maybe they can seize the moment to correct the license frame, too, and just get one black eye for two goofs. It's a wicked, wonderful, awesome and beautiful car, so why leave a turd on the bumper when it's hat flies off?

Mid America Motorworks - New to forum

A quick note to Mike Yager with a thanks and an apology. I got the Delco-Bose CD player they sell for my '84 and the CD player skipped and wouldn't play very often. Mike's team said they'd make it right and all they needed was a purchase order number. Well, turns out the shop that got me the...

Just got the latest Mid-America catalog in the mail. Guess what they have at the top of Page E of the New Products section ... yep ... you guessed it ............

GM - Here is what we think of the License Plate Mount

Okay ... I just blew about a half hour going through all these comments about the C6 front plate holder. Add me to the "NO" vote. People buy a Corvette because it's a beautiful, high performance roadster with a world-class reputation for excellence and quality. Anyone who says "get over it"...

    Corvette Diecast Collection For Sale

My collection is much smaller ... but I have a situation, too, so it's gotta go. I won't post it for sale for a while, though ... you have the floor, my friend. And good luck with your situation ... whoever she may be. I'm just gonna keep the real Vette ... my escape pod.

This is so cool!! I want one!

That's quite an engineering feat, when you think about it. Sure, there are lots of engines to look at and reverse-engineer, but this guy did it all himself ... design, engineering, machining and building. Bet he has a CNC, too .....
