Question: What would cause a shake

I second the motion on load force balancing. I had it done to my new wheels and tires a month or so ago. Smooth as silk. Discount Tire charged me $20 a wheel/tire, which is $5 more than standard balancing. Jake

    Which years identical to '96?

I bought both books for my 96 from helminc for around that price, then sent them back for a refund after I found them $25.00 cheaper on Ebay. Mine were new, too. Just my experience. Jake

    Question: Fuel injectors.

I forgot to mention, but a few of the bolts may be tough to remove after so many years. Just make sure the bit you use is the correct fit for the bolts - I forgot the size though. As you re-install everything, be sure to apply Anti-Seize on all the bolt threads that screw into aluminum...

    Question: Fuel injectors.

Those readings are too low. I recall the 86 I use to own called for 15 ohms, or so. I'm not sure what year your Vette is but you can probably do a Google Search to find out what your injectors should read. Changing them isn't all that difficult; just time to remove the parts to access them...

    HEADLIGHT MISERY

I didn't see this answered so here's what I learned. If I remember correctly GM changed the headlight actuation assembly in 1988, probably because the earlier design failed so often. Last time I checked, no one offered the earlier design but, instead, offer an upgrade kit (88 and up), but...

    What is this plastic part

When I first bought my 86 and popped the hood, I said, to myself, HOLY SH**, WHAT IS ALL THIS STUFF!!! Anyway, I disconnected, removed and plugged all the A.I.R. and EGR stuff and became a happy camper thereafter. In my opinion all that STUFF was nothing more than a band-aid approach to meet...

    86 vette, lopes at idle

I agree. The code, using something like a paper clip inserted in the ALDL port, will give you and idea of where to begin to check. You can't just install the TPS and consider the job done. You have to check, and if necessary adjust, the voltage setting using a digital volt meter. It's...

    Before & After rims.

Yes, the finer the paper you end up using, the easier the polishing will be. So you pay on one end (paper) to save on the other (polish). Jake

Help! LT1 Hotcam Install , Valve clatter

So, you're saying you DID prime the oiling system when you did the cam install, right? If so that pretty much kills my suspicion that not priming was the cause. I do believe that the rod bearing clearances on the LTx are tight. Much tighter than on high-performance built engines built by...

Help! LT1 Hotcam Install , Valve clatter

I hate to see anyone have a failure and NOT know what caused it, so I just thought of something: Could it be that the engine oiling system wasn't primed after the cam install? I've never read anything that says it needs to be primed, but if the oil galleries, lifters, pushrods, are dry, could...

Help! LT1 Hotcam Install , Valve clatter

Sorry for your loss; I know the feeling. Surprisingly, your loss isn't uncommon. Over the past few years, I come across several posts on other Forums put up by guys who have experienced the exact same thing. They changed the cam and ended up with a spun bearing. A lot of the responses say...

Help! 87 L98 rough idle and surging

The 86 I use to own had those symptoms on a few occasions. First time it was a broken MAF wire, The second time was a dead 02 sensor and Last time was a vacuum leak at the #1 injector (where it fits into the intake manifold). Jake

Coolant Spill from Recovery Tank --(Repost with additional info) Any Idea Why?

TPIS recommends a similiar procedure, they call it "packing". Have a jug of 50/50 mixture of water/coolant close where you can easily reach. I sit mine in the passenger side headlight well. First you fire the engine and once a small amount of heat begins to build, as it's idling slowly...

    Question: Which Engine?

You're luckier than you know. When I decided to re-build the engine in my 86 several years back, I pulled disassembled it, then cleaned off all the oil, etc., and took it to Reher & Morrison (of Pro Stock fame) in Arlington. Their facilities are top shelf and their reputation is tops also...

The windshield is way to expensive.

WOW!! I'm amazed and at the same time SORRY to read about your windshield problem. I had the one changed on my 86 Vette for FREE, and the installer came to my house to do it in the driveway. He removed and reused all those "special" parts some places try to charge you for. Took the guy about...

Help! LT1 Hotcam Install , Valve clatter

When everything is normal and some work or some change is made to the engine, then a problem arises, it's almost always caused by the change that was made. Same thing with computers. So I'd first re-check everything; doing the most obvious and easiest things first, like proper plug wire...

Help! LT1 Hotcam Install , Valve clatter

So we're talking a KNOCK, right? Not tapping, right? How's your oil pressure and temp look? Does the noise seem to be dependent on the temps of the coolant and/or oil? What weight oil are you running? Am I correct that all this began after the installation of the Hot Cam, that...

Here's what the dealer is telling me......

On the 86 I use to own, I had to pull the plenum, runners and fuel rails with the injectors still afixed to the rails to check if any injector was leaking. With the rails off, I just energized the fuel pump and checked each injector for any sign of leakage. Fortunately none were but I did...
