Jack,
Thanks. I will check it out. So, I should just be able to disconnect and bypass straight to 12V and verify? That sure would be nice to find a simple fix.
Eric
Thanks,
Interesting design. Looks like they meant to build a mousetrap and built a module. :)
Is this located under the hood near the blower/evaporater items?
Thanks,
Eric
I opened a new thread titled "AC Problems, 1987 Corvette" on this but yes, it is blowing cold air and my thoughts have been the same as yours. I just think I have a problem with getting good airflow.
Someone else suggested jumping as well, however they were talking about a module for models...
I don't believe mine is climate controlled. I just found this link to someone selling one on the net and it is described as climate controlled. The one picture of the dash is not a real close-up but it is enough to tell that it is not the way mine looks...
Thanks for the image. There must be another one that actually shows it under the hood or you just know from experience. :)
Hopefully it's right where you describe. I will check tonight. Now, another question. You mentioned being able to see the evaporator with a mirror. Does that mean...
Glenn,
Thanks and I'm with ya on that! I'm not dying to pull the dash. The Chevy dealer wanted to charge me 1400 bucks to pull the dash and replace evap core. sounds like they didn't need to pull dash after all?
The other gentleman mentioned that fan module. Will I have that on my year...
Thanks. I just saw the other messages which better describe the location. I was checking this on my cell phone and didnt see all the other replies. :)
THanks,
Eric
Ken,
Thanks. I will try the thermometer. The fan speed/air output increases only slightly with speed, hardly enough to recognize. I do know that on an 85 degree day yesterday, I went about 55 for a few mins and it was just nearly enough to become almost comfortable. Enough to know that with...
Hello,
I have another thread titled "Removing Dash from 1987 Coupe" but the underlying issue is AC and presume that is why I've gotten some limited responses from our good man Jester.
I have an AC problem that was originally diagnosed as leaking o-rings on compressor, bad wiring connecter...
1987 Coupe AC Problems
Jester,
I thought by now I would have heard more too. I am thinking it is because my subject line (which I don't know how to change) does not contain anything about AC problems.
All the dampers work. Air shifts appropriately, etc. The ONLY thing that seems to be a...
Ok, sounds like we are making progress here then. So, by your account, if the fan speed does increase (which it does, just barely), then I have an airflow problem. Could this be due to an old blower? maybe clogged?
What would contribute to an airflow problem? And just so I understand, is...
I do not believe I have climate control.
I can hear the change in fan speeds yes. I briefly changed to heat and to be honest, i need to recheck if that is the same. If they are the same or if the heat fan goes faster, is that a symptom?
Thanks,
Eric
Replacing AC Evaporator 1987 Coupe
I failed to say that I went ahead and forked over the cost of the dianostics test and they found that the evaporator is bad, or so they say.
I'm not convinced since it does blow air now that i repaired a wiring problem and got the compressor to kick in.
it...
Hello,
I am considering replacing the AC Evaporator Core myself since the part is only a couple hundred bucks but the shop wants $1400. Since I'm pretty handy, I think I can do this but it would be helpful if someone had the procedure for removing the dash, since it (evaporator) is supposedly...
Thanks for the quick reply. Good info. I've done valve guides before so maybe I can do this. I am not sure what crate is but I'm guessing you mean a brand new engine?
Ball joints just came in and having them put in tomorrow. I think the inspectors were pretty thorough since they also told...
1987 Coupe with 350
Hello,
I was just reading this engine life thread and have a question. I just bought this 87 from a guy who had it for 12 yrs and he thinks he bought it from original owner. It has 184K miles on it. Two questions.
First, is there a website that would be able to run the...
Thanks. Appreciate the feedback. Now to identify this low pressure switch. Can you help with that? Is there anything visible that I should see in this switch?
Thanks.
eric
[ QUOTE=bradfordsvettes;832416]you need to check the low pressure cycling swicth first. just because the compessor does...
Hello all,
I just joined a couple days ago and appreciate all the notes. I have a 1987 corvette coupe.
The AC doesn't work and I already attempted to recharge it and the compressor does not kick in. At this point I am assuming it is the old compressor.
I've seen a decent deal for about...
