    Call car Error Code 54!

I have been troubleshooting a while (starting in Uncle sugars canoe club about the time my car was manufactured (86) and know the term "easter eggin." Got the manual and tools (actually I use ALLDATADIY.com which is the service manual on line). I needed a manual a while back and could not find a...

    Call car Error Code 54!

You have to be old or know some wierd stuff to get my title. My problem with my beastie is that I am getting an error code 54. I have purchased a pump, but have not replaced (currently at inlaws and not on my back in the garage). Is the error code 54 a dead ringer for the fuel pump? Car...

Correct color for aluminum head's valve covers on and 86'

Ken, Thanks for the info. I am surprized that they would get that brown. I am ready to repaint and just wanted to understand why I had seen seemingly two colors. Thanks Joe

Correct color for aluminum head's valve covers on and 86'

I have seen the grayish/aluminum look of most valve covers on AL head L98s but mine has a (badly worn) copperish, brown that I have seen on some of the cast iron heads. Is this a correct color for my 86? If I order the cover paint from one of the catalogs will it be the correct copperish...

both cooling fans on with sensor unplugged, help

My problem is that the fan is on when I turn the key and does not go off. I had some odd wiring that had been done and have removed that along with replacing the relay which was our original diag. Still fan always on. So, I used my handy scanning software and noted that there is a perpetual...

    Start problem '86

But wait, there is more. I ran across this website http://web.telia.com/~u60505093/index.htm and have built the cable suggested. I am reading data from my ECM using this guy's (free) software and my nifty cable built for $8 bucks of parts that you can find at radio shack. How does this...

As amplification, the ECM should store the code. You can paper clip the ALDL and read the flashes. Joe

    OBD 1 Scanner

Why, Yes, ODB I was used on all vettes from 84 to 91 I believe. I am sure that it was used in 86 (my car) and I have built my own cable and use a piece of freeware a guy online wrote. Just yesterday I finished my cable for all of 9 bucks of parts from an electronic store and was reading all...

    What Happened To my Transmission????

This sounds similar to a symptom I had on a test ride the other day. Will a filter change have any effect on performance so I can begint to save for a rebuild?

Update on the brake troubleshooting: I am a clod. I feel like the little vette owner who cried "Mustang!" I noticed while my four year old pumped the brakes (he is praticing for when he can by his OWN), that PS fluid was leaking out of the back of the master cylinder at the power booster...

NOOOOOOOoooooo.....Not new calipers...I am close to lifting the radiator cap and driving a new car under the old one. Actually, I love my car even though I have not had a chance to drive it since owning ( got July 5 this year). I am so thrilled to own a vette, I can just look at it in the...

Only if your wife/girlfriend are around... Heard a joke once: If a man is in the woods and says something without a woman around...does that still make him wrong? I have not measured, but need to. I am sure they need replacing in the front, but I have almost no brakes...I would think I...

Continuing the FYI... Haynes: LR, RR, LF, ending in the RF ALLDATA (Which is way cool BTW): RF, RR, LR, and ending LF. Go figure. I seem to remember reading either a post or a manual/info book that made the point for the farthest to to the closest caliper to the MC? Line length wise, the...

Interesting Note I discovered that the Haynes sequence of bleeding is different than that published on the www.alldatadiy.com service (online manual). I must assume that the ALL DATA is correct, as it is the details of the genuine GM manual.

Moony Yep, had my block of wood under the pedal and all. Started in the left rear, RR, LF, ending in the RF according the the Haynes bubbas...did I miss anything?

More info: I have little or no brake function. I assumed that since the car has been sitting for ??? long in the Navada desert that it would need a good flushing, so I did that and got ice tea looking bf out of the calipers. System flushed just fine, buttoned her up and went to back out the...

Heres the deal (1986). I bleed my little brakes to perfection (in my opinion with the wifey's very agile brake foot). still have no pressure... and almost not brakes. I am a brake novice and don't know where to turn next. Master Cylinder seems to be the logical next step. Does the power...
