Replacement of carpet and center console

Hey L82 Shark, You are going to want to put down sound barrier/insulation. I used a product I bought at Lowes/Home Depot. It is basically bubblewrap between foil. You can buy a roll for about $30. Do a search on the center console replacement. You will be able to see how it goes together when...

    What is this part?

Hey John Z, that's it. I probably confused you guys by indicating it was part of the bellhousing. It is part of the transmission in the bellhousing. Any idea on where I can purchase a front bearing retainer? You guys are the best! Thanks for being here for guys like me. peace Bud

    What is this part?

Hey guys, one of the colateral damages from my catastrophic engine failure is the shaft in the bellhousing that the throwout bearing rides on. It is part of the bellhousings face plate that bolts to the front of the transmission. What is this called? Where can a replacement be purchased? Thanks...

    Here I go again

Hey guys, well I blew up the lower end of the #matching 383 that was in my '74 coupe. I am now building a new stroker using a 4 bolt main out of a 70s something pickup. Can anyone provide any feedback on the 4340 cranks that are offered from Powerhouse? They are about $250/$350 less than the...

Engine mount block bolt stripped out.

Hey 454, I can't see where one of the three bolts holding the mount to the block would cause any problems. Are you planning to race this car? If not make sure the others bolts are ok and test drive it. Go somewhere you can sidestep the clutch and see how she reacts. A broken mount will allow the...

Frame off starting new rebuilt engine.

Hey Mike, my '74 is a manual so I have a switch that is operated by the clutch. Also on the firewall passenger side there is a relay that needs to be connected. I'm not at home and can't remember how this is routed. I'm sure another member could point this out. If not let me know and I'll help...

    Thanks for the welcome

Hey fine, welcome to the CAC. I also kept looking in the garage after the purchase of my '74 coupe. I would return to the house and announce that there was a corvette in the garage. I knew everything was allright the day my wife came home from shopping and exclaimed THERE'S A CORVETTE IN THE...

Got the frame back... Paint Question

Hey Whiplash, thanks for the info. I have lifted alot of odd shaped objects in my occupation and understand the effects of a single point hookup. I didn't like the looks of the sling the first time I saw it. I realy like the extra height idea. Besides being able to store the body over the chasis...

    Quadrajet Success

Hey guys, over the winter I obtained a Q-jet that was originally on a '79 L-82. I bought it because for the last 5 years I have been reading on this site how good a properly tuned Quad is. This carb had been "restored" to original specs by a local carb shop here in Dayton. After installing a...

What's wrong with this cam head setup?

Hey Grump, great posting. That is a good checklist for anyone doing a cam swap/engine rebuild. Hey Rocket, pull the valve covers, disconnect the distributor have someone turn the engine over and watch the rockers to see if the valves are opening and closing. Make sure you didn't shortcut the...
