    Rear wheel bearings help please

Lawrence, I thought that was you! Thanks for the info, man. I'll definately give that a try with this next set. Are you going to Buttonwillow again this weekend? Hope to see ya there! Barry

    Rear wheel bearings help please

I kinda have the same result as you, in that the first set was cheapie Pep Boys (Chicago Rawhide?), which failed in about four months. Second set was ACDelco, ordered from Ecklers, which lasted one entire year. The ACDelco lasted longer than the cheapies, but still, one year? Maybe 15,000...

    Rear wheel bearings help please

Well, it's time to replace the rear wheel bearings again (this will be the third set in two years!), and I'm beginning to question if I'm doing something wrong when installing them! In all fairness, I take the car to the track several times a year, which I understand can have a somewhat...

    Doug Rippie Motorsports

Great guys over at Doug Rippie Motorsports! One of the guys there spent about 20 minutes talking with me about my power steering pump problems, even though he didn't have anything to sell me! Just thought I'd share... :D Barry

    Steam Cleaning the Engine

Well, I don't know about steam cleaning, which might cause some problems with nearly 10 year old wiring. Maybe just some de-greaser and low-pressure water jet? Even then, try to stay away from the wiring bundles.

    Major Engine Work Advice Requested

Definately have the plug wires changed while they're in there! It's a major pain to do, having just done it on mine. Barry

    Strange Fan Behavior

I tested this last night. In the garage, I let the car warm up to about 220, then turned on the A/C. Both fans came on high speed. They stayed on high speed until the temp came down to around 213, when both fans went to low speed. I turned off the A/C, and both fans stayed on low speed for about...

    Coolant!!!

Sorry, did you say you had replaced the radiator cap? I seem to go through one every year. :ugh

Can u recommand a shifter upgrade?

guessguy, you have to pull that metal wedge straight up and out, then the knob unscrews. Just work side to side with some needle-nose pliers, and it will eventually come out! What Jason said about dropping the exhaust was true for me as well. Some guys have posted that they were able to...

    Another power steering question

Other than a K&N filter, the engine is totally stock. I never had a chance to dyno it, so I don't really know what it's putting down at the wheels. This is my first Corvette, so I don't even have anything to compare it to, although I did have a change to drive a supercharged Cobra at Willow...

    Another power steering question

Edmund, I do track my car, six or eight weekends out of the year, plus it's my daily driver. Autozone figured out a way to get a few more bucks out of you- If you say you need it sooner, they can "expedite" shipping for a few extra dollars! Sometimes I'm willing to pay it, other times not...

    Another power steering question

Edmund, it seems that for cars that aren't flogged on a race track or autocross, the power steering will probably last many years. For me, this is the second high-pressure hose in as many years, and others have experienced the same. Now I hear from Ecklers that "Oh, that part is back ordered...

    Another power steering question

Update: The Vette is still down! OK, normally it shouldn't take this long to fix a power steering leak, but since I plan to keep this car a while, and continue taking it to the track, I wanted to spend some time to find the root cause of the problem. Turns out my statement about the hose...

Can u recommand a shifter upgrade?

I put the Hurst shifter in mine over a year ago. I like it a lot. Good, short, positive throws.

    why's she sagging

On mine, I measured the gap between the top of the rear tire and the lip of the wheel well opening. I have a three-finger gap on the right, and two fingers on the left.

Very cool, thanks for the info guys!

    Question about shocks

Jeff, I replaced my FE1 Bilsteins with the same shocks you're looking at, the Z51 items. I use my car as my daily driver, and weekend track weapon. The Z51 shocks can be a bit jarring on an uneven road, but it's something I can live with for the benefit I get from them on the track. I have...

Guldstrand"s Track day at Willow Springs!!

So. Bay, how did you happen to hear of the Guldstrand event? I've been to Willow Springs several times with NASA, but there usually aren't many other Vettes there. It would be great to get out on that track with a bunch of other Corvette drivers! Barry

    Bilstein Question

When I bought my base-suspension car, with 89,000 on the clock, the original Bilsteins were already worn out. I replaced them with Z51 Bilsteins, and now have a fairly firm ride. Along with the bigger sway bars, the car handles well at the track, but might be a little too firm for a...
