Had that problem on an 89 I had, read a lot, asked around for a fix, then, after a couple weeks, I rapped a couple times on the display with my knuckles and it lit back up. Never had the problem again. Hope you would be as lucky.

Grounds or battery..Had same issue with an 89 i had, turned out to be the battery even tho it showed 13 volts. Get the battery load tested to see if that's the culprit.

Sounds like the ignition switch is bad. With the switch off the column, can you move the switch positions between Acc/Off/On/Start? Has to be that or a bad tumbler on column, IMO.
