I agree. Only if the key is in the "On" position. Just turning the headlights on with the key out does not light the dash.

I had a similar "clunk" sound. It was cause by a loose rear spindle nut. Took me a while to think of checking that before I found it.They need to be torqued to 165 ft. lbs. Easy check if you have not done it already.

Update The Bose System RPO code is indeed in my RPO sticker. Also, there is a similar connector under the opposite side speaker. It has the same color wires as the Shop Manual shows for as the "RH Rear Amplifier/ Speaker Unit" This proves without a doubt that my 86 came with the Bose System...
