    Poor Running Vette

David, Start out by unhooking all the vacuum from the engine and plugging it off. It is possible you have a failed PCV? This is an automatic? Any chance the vacuum modulator to the trans is either the culprit? Try the vacuum plug and let us know what happens. Although I hate vacuum...

    Birdcage rust repair input needed

I have done quite a bit of research on this. I may be tackling a midyear coupe fairly soon, with the same problems. If you go to my home page www.mcspeed.homestead.com and look at my 69 Shark, you will see I slipped the birdcage out of that car, as well as a 71 vert, and there is a link to...

I doubt it was valve noise. However, it probably sounded like it. What he heard was the sound of the engine lugging really hard as the charging system kicked into full charge mode when the battery cable came loose. So, it drug the engine down low, gen kicked in, the serpentine belt was...

No, but if the battery connection broke off or something right after you started it, the alternator would be trying to charge like mad...pulling the idle down low and causing the engine to load at the belt.

    84 tranny problem?

Sounds like the trans is getting a bit worn. Any other symptoms? You might try a full service on it. Maybe the filter is getting plugged and it is taking a while for the fluid pressure to be where it should be when the fluid is cold (thicker) and trying to get through the valve body. In the...

    Steering

First make sure your belt and tensioner are both good. A slipping belt will cause you not to have any power steering. Do a FULL flush on it. Open the lines and let it drain, then fill it with good Lucas brand fluid...and or Valvoline synthetic. Run the car, then drain. Do this several times...

85 coupe antenna problem - help please

I added several inches of wire to my stock harness the last time I had my antenna out for a mast repacement. This way I can service it with room to spare. Something you might want to consider. My guess is that antenna has been repaired before and the white wire that appears to be cut is left...

    30 minutes ago!!!!!

Dan...any updates? A bad ground wire from the batter to frame will do this, as well as a poor connection to the starter terminal from the main power line...or just a very defective battery. Start out by getting a voltmeter on that battery, then checking all the connections if the battery has...

    door falling down

It is more like a worn bushing/pin. Open the hood and look back at the door hinge. Have a friend open the door and lift up and down on the back of it while you watch the hinge. Look for play inbetween the two sides of each hinge. Chances are, that is your problem. You can fix it one of two...

    heating problem

That is really too cold for a car in a cold climate. You will never really heat up when moving down the road as the stat is open right away and circulating water. I suggest you go to at least a 180, if not back stock. If you want the car to run a tad cooler, go for the custom thermo sensor...

    chevy dealership blues

Here is the problem with steering columns. They require some speciality tools to service them. There are generic tools out there, but even that gets expensive when you add up all the ones needed to do this job right. You need: 1. steering wheel puller 2. Special steering wheel puller due...

    Fast Idle

Let's go with the obvious first. Any chance at all you have a leak between the Mass Air Flow sensor and throttle body? Is the boot on right, clamp loose, or too tight? Look at your PCV and make sure it is not leaking between the valve and the intake. Here is how you set the base idle...

Here are some more pics. I took these after we moved to Michigan in our back yard. This is just before I blew the left rear tire due to dry rot. This red 74 was what I drove to high school....
