    GM part #'s

ORIGINAL 1978 GM parts book. Dave, Is that parts manual specific to the 78 or does it cover other shark years? (if specific, where did you get it?) And why do (did) part numbers change? Do or does your manual show that conversion? That information is exactly what I need! Thanks! Shawn :)

    GM part #'s

Thanks all! I plugged Heidi's numbers into the GM Parts website and no go. :( I tried running a parts search for an e-brake assembly and nothing popped up. But I did have the number and whala, :D it came up! I guess the number is the way to go. I checked out ebay and they have parts manuals...

    GM part #'s

Is there any publication that is available (for the average Joe) that contains GM part numbers for my 78? ;shrug Sometimes trying to explain what I need to a parts guy is a hassle.:crazy It would seem to be easier for me to identify the part, then call them with the number. Thanks! Shawn:L

    M.A.D. Chambered Exhaust

Heidi, That's great news! BTW - What did Kenny initially set the timing at; 6, 8, or 10 degrees BTDC? Did he do anything else to the timing before the exhaust swap? Also, I never did ask, did you instal an "H" pipe or are going straight back from the exhaust manifolds? Shawn PS - Ordered my...

Are roller rockers worth the extra $$

Mako, If you go to 1:6:1 rockers, do you stick with stock size pushrods or do go switch them out for others? Shawn

Are roller rockers worth the extra $$

Hey guys, I'm looking at upgrading my stock cam to a summit k1102 and was thinking of adding summit's steel roller rocker package on my stock heads. Is it worth the added expense? Would I receive any HP gain? Also, should I keep the stock manifold or switch it out with a performer? Shawn

    M.A.D. Chambered Exhaust

Gary, I too will be ordering the MA Chambered system for my 78 next week. They (and Heidi's comments) were very helpfull in making my decision. And for the price (on sale for $250), the complete set up can not be beat. Let me know what other brackets you needed to purchase in addtion to what...

    Mid-America Dual Exhaust Conversion

Joe, I am ordering my MA Chambered exhaust set this week (good winter project). For $250 you can't go wrong! I went back and forth with the other option (true duals w/mufflers) and decided for the money, chambered was a good deal. My budget was tight this month so the chamber got the nod. :)...

Power Antenna or Parts - '79 Corvette

I'm sure page62 has the part I used to fix mine. The motor worked, but the nylon cable snaped. Ordered a repair kit for mine from Eckler's and within 3 hours it was up (and down) running again. Funny, the previous 2 owners took it to the dealer (didn't have a clue) and even pruchased a new mast...

    Got My Seats Done

Bob, What was the out-the-door cost for those "very nice" seats? Looking to get mine done (got a quote yesterday for about $1100). Shawn:eek

    jumping tacho

I also had the same problem on my 78. Turned out to be the coil. I replaced that and now it moves smoothly 0-5500rmp up & down (even at WOT). Shawn

'78 Anniversary Edition for sale, but too much money

Extend your search and you should get a good sampling of what cars are going for in your region. I picked up a 78 in Denver for $5500 and i'm in Seatte. The average price for Vette's here is about $2-3k more for the same quality. I never saw the car until it arrived. I had a corvette dealer...

    Exhaust Harmonics?

Bill, I think that is my next project after the first of the year. As i'm replacing the exhaust (to true duals), I will pull the tranny to check those two things out. If it isn't there, i'm about out of options - then it sounds like an internal balance issue. Shawn

    C3 Steering?

I have got to say, this is one of the best comprehensive posts on Steering I've seen yet! :) This helps to answer a few questions I had myself regarding a little "slop" in my own steering. Thanks again - you guys Rock! Shawn:upthumbs

Gymkhana Suspension - What Did It Consist Of

No rear sway bar = no Gymkhana = not a factory installed trailer hitch. :( Well at least that is good to know - I'll just keep the trailer hitch hidden behind the license plate. :eyerole Bob, Thanks for this post. :) Shawn

    Which Cam are you using?

Ron, Thanks for the "bucks" worth of infor! :beer I appreciate the other Dyno info on some other cam and setups. I also am considering the xe268 and it was good to see you added that to the list. I respect the opinions of the CAC members and (IMO) this is what makes this the best forum on the...

    trailer hitch on a Corvette?

Bob, In the Corvette spec manual from Chevy printed October 1977 (for the 1978's), it notes that the "Trailering package, consists of: V01 heavy duty radiator, standard engine with M38 transmission, and FE7 and FE7 Gymkhana suspension." I'm sure the option was there to have the 4sp if you...

    trailer hitch on a Corvette?

Bob, I don't see a rear swaybar or existance of one. I do though have the 7-leaf spring installed . How else can you tell if you have the Gymkhana suspension? Could it be that my hitch is "Dealer" installed and not factory. How might we get a clear definition on a trailer hitch set up. :crazy Shawn

    trailer hitch on a Corvette?

Bob, thanks for the photo! :) According to the photo you sent, mine does not appear to be factory installed. The 2.5" hitch assembly is hidden behind the license plate and in part welded to part of the bumber assembly. This is what I thought, since I'm sure I don't sport the FE7 suspension...
