    Rear-end update

That's a good idea! No sense in having the car sitting there while you wait for sidepipes! :) I would love to go with side pipes, but the smog nazi's would never allow me. I almost bought a 78 with chrome side pipes and JCL baffles when I lived in Oklahoma (no inspection). I had no idea that...

    Rear-end update

Ole Blue, My drivers side yoke had about 3/16" of play and it was about to break through the snap ring. I would say that 1/8" is about time to replace. You can look at the picture I posted of the 4 yokes together. The second from the left is at it's last leg. That should give you some idea...

    Rear-end update

Wow, I bet you can't wait to get it back on the road again. Does this mean you'll be completely done with the car or simply that it'll be road worthy again? I'd still love to see some pics of the convertible top area if you've got any lying around :) Russ

    Rear-end update

Yes I do! Mike did a great job with the differential. Now I'll just have to recruit Bullitt to help put it all back together. Bullitt, whatcha up to this Sunday, or Saturday afternoon? :) Vmrod, I noticed your sig says "custom convertible". What's up with that? Do you have any pics of...

    High performance coil

I don't think it makes much of a difference. I think the power it puts out is more important than where it mounts. If they both put out the same power, then electrically speaking, the shorter path will have less resistance. I think others may have more insight though. Russ

    Rear-end update

I'll have some pictures of the underside of mine to post in a little while. In the meantime, here is a picture demonstrating what can happen when GM uses case hardened side yokes instead of through-hardened side yokes. The outer yokes are the new ones. The inner left yoke is the drivers side...

    Which Harmonic Balancer?

I'm pretty sure that the movement of the belt is normal. I've looked at others with A/C and most of the belts also vibrate quite a bit. I do think that it is just a natural vibration for the flex fan at that rpm. Russ

    Rear Differential Brands

I got the 4 oz bottle from Tom's differential. They say 1 is enough but I guess I'll see. If I have any chatter I'll just add another :) Russ

    Rear Differential Brands

I was under the impression that you only needed 1 bottle of differential additive. That is all I ordered for the diff in my 77 which is being rebuilt right now. Should I add another before I install it? Russ

To belt or not to belt, that is the question

If the pulley spins freely, you can't hurt anything by putting the belt on. That is of course, until you turn on the a/c :) Russ

    Rear-end update

Whoaa, easy Bob. The baby word might set something off! :) The baby is in the plans for the near future (12-18 months). But the only baby I'm working on now is 77. I promise to take some video of the install which I can then snap some pictures from. It is in sore need of a bath right now...

    Rear-end update

OOOOHHHHHHH. I thought the two yokes on the side were the new ones! Doh! I'll edit that post right away. :) I really did have those things worn down didn't I! Oh well, all is good now. vmrod, I had mike paint the drive train parts in a light cast color. I think it will look really sharp...

    Rear-end update

Bob, It went well. I don't know if I got enough of the built-up grease off of all the places :( but the metal-ready seemed to go on well and I now have white streaking all over my metal parts :) I haven't applied the POR-15 yet because it's humid as hell and I wanted to be sure that I got...

    Need everyones input on this

It depends. If you want a chrome bumpered shark or a convertible, you should sell the 77 quick and go looking for a 69. If, however you want a coupe, you could do a hell of a big block in the 77 and also keep things like cruise control, etc. that weren't available on the 69. Also, I've seen...

    Rear-end update

Finally, the third pic is another exploded view of all the parts on the work bench. Still waiting for the inner bearings and seals. I'm thinking of painting the U-joints as well.
