Want to see a ZR-1 lap an '02 Z06 on track?

Anybody, Z owner or otherwise, who doesn't get ZR-1's either hasn't been paying attention or has a personal agenda. They're great cars, and without them it's unlikely there would have been a Z. Anytime you have cars of varying capabilities or drivers of different skill levels on the same track...

Want to see a ZR-1 lap an '02 Z06 on track?

Not to be a spoilsport, but it only means something if you want it to. He was waved by, you can see it in the video. The other guy was inexperienced, and appears to have an instructor in the passenger's seat. I suspect the Z guy was trying to let him by on the previous straight (where you'd...

    References for buying 63-67's??

Thanks, nick67vette. I've got one of the books, and I'll look for the other two. I've got some catching up to do, no question about it. I agree about the NCRS and Bloomington Gold, and I'll keep that in mind for next year. I'm sure I'll have lots of questions, but right now the hard part is...

Partitions.. where and are they any good?

Yes, that's the purpose of the air gap, although the issue has been and is being debated elsewhere. If the carpet doesn't quite match, it may be that the partition was intended for a different Z. The '01 and '02 carpets are slightly different colors. I don't know about '03's.

EXPERIENCES WANTED: Driving a C5 Corvette in Winter Conditions

There's nothing wrong with the car that would prevent driving it in rain or snow, other than the low ride height and clearance issues that can occur when the snow gets higher. The real issue is whether the tires can do the job. Not all tires are created equally, and their ability deteriorates as...

    My dreaded Firestone experience...

Sounds like the problem originated at the local dealer level. If you like the tires, doing as Ken described or getting a shop's name from Tire Rack and working up front with a local dealer they suggest (some shops do a fair amount of business with them) should eliminate the problem. In fact, if...

    4+3 Info...any Guidance

FWIW and for onlookers, it appears the 4+3 is set up differently on different year vettes. On the early C4's, at least through '85, the OD was a separate gear range. With the switch off, you had a standard close-ratio 4-speed. Period. With the switch on, the top three gears ran through the...

Partitions.. where and are they any good?

They can work if the right material is used. The noise level is cut a bit, and the underlying frequency is changed to a less obnoxious one. Done right, they look like they came with the car- or as if there was no opening to begin with. Some say the stereo sounds better with one installed.

    References for buying 63-67's??

Agreed. I've been reading up on the subject, and a lot of the car is like my old '70. I'm not sure I want to go back to doing all my own work, though! At some point, I'll probably start a thread asking about local techs. There used to be several Corvette shops in the area, but they've gone out...

    References for buying 63-67's??

Thanks for the thoughtful and informative reply. I'm really just looking for a driver. Unfortunately, and as with all collectibles, passing time and human hands have clouded the issues. More often than not, those cars have already gotten 'improved' or 'restored' somewhere along the line. I'm...

    References for buying 63-67's??

I'm thinking about buying a mid-year and would like to learn some more about common pitfalls and things to look out for. Can anyone suggest any good books, tapes, sites or other references that will help to avoid unpleasant surprises? Thanks for your help.

Who Uses What With Meguiars System ?

I don't have any experience with the Medallion line, but it's supposed to be more durable than Gold Class and supposedly attracts less dust. Sometimes wax will take out the spots, and I've heard vinegar sometimes can, although I haven't used it. If you need swirl remover, 3M does make two kinds...

    2002 Z06 exhaust jingle

FWIW, the 'jingle' noise is usually most noticeable in gear on deceleration with the windows down. At idle with the clutch in or out there are a number of tranny noises, some normal, some not. Some Z's have been reported to have cold piston slap. I believe GM is supposed to be working on a...

    valve adjustment

Reducing the gap is not advisable, but if the gap has increased significantly over spec due to wear or whatever (including previously being set incorrectly), and it very likely has, setting it correctly can definitely increase performance. Had that issue on a bb, and the difference that setting...

driving on 12+ year old tires

FWIW, when the rubber is that old, cold weather and rain/snow conditions can be treacherous. Warm/dry shouldn't be nearly so bad. I had tires that old on a C4.

    HP rating for 396???

A few of the super bb's- the ones they left the heaters and radios out of the cars with- were underrated. The typical consumer versions more or less followed marketing conventions. The dyno figures I've seen put the stock 390hp 427/454 at around 325rwhp through the stock exhausts. Headers and...

    Removing Water Spots

If the marks are into the finish, sometimes swirl remover is the last resort. It will take the top portion of the clearcoat that contains the mark off. There are a number of brands. Just follow the directions and don't apply excess pressure. Let the product do the job. It's more aggressive than...

    1971 big block

The carb's of a '71 Camaro, El Camino or Chevelle, and there's a 3955287 iron oval port head intended for a Rochester Q-jet 4V around that vintage. As far as id'ing the block, it may have other identifying characteristics. Check big block hotrodding books (which often explain the variants) or...
