NCM Build Sheet vs. Window Sticker

Sounds like the car was built around the time of the spring price increase when a number of prices changed. The build sheet was probably correct beforehand and never updated. In that sense, they're both correct.

    2003 Order: Getting Frustrated

I've seen posts to the effect MY orders were being delayed. Just a rumor afaik, but one never knows.

    1971 big block

My reference shows 336781 as the head for a '74 vette 454, which was then rated at 270hp (the '72-74's were rated at 270 and 275hp). I don't know at this point if it's the same p/n as the truck head. BTW, if you haven't adjusted valve lash, do so, if it's excessive, the valves aren't opening all...

    1971 big block

That could go either way. It could have been a block, a short block or an entire engine. Obviously, removing salient components from the original and reinstalling them on the new block would be more labor intensive than simply pulling the old unit and replacing it. Whether an actual unmodified...

    Transmission 4+3

Ouch! The levers that go on the transmission (as opposed to the shifter itself) don't particularly increase the effort, imo, certainly not to the point of making it objectionable or hard to shift. If the linkage is hanging up on 2-3, it could be a neutral adjustment or some rod binding...

    Oil consumption?

The pertinent service bulletin is posted in the Knowledgebase, on a subsequent page in this forum and in the Z forum. The PCV system is also involved. Reviewing it might be helpful, and no, it's neither just Z's nor is it all Z's. Just some of them.

Whats the Best C4 to Buy?

Pretty much everything you want is on all C4's. Other than the increased amount of power (as well as styling and bodywork additions) as time went by, the main difference I can think of is that the '84 through '87 or so (I might be off a year) had a special steering ratio with the Z51 package. It...

    Transmission 4+3

Had a 4+3 for 17 years. No problems. The condition is not normal, but without knowing more about the car, I can't really say.

    1st to 4th Light

Thanks, hopefully I'll get around to doing it this weekend.

    Clay Bar

Thanks RubyDropTop, that isn't what I was thinking of, but it's an excellent tip. I'm not sure of the dimensions you have in mind for a silver dollar pancake- do you mean a flat circle about the size of a silver dollar? The trick I saw was a way of folding it so that fresh surfaces were exposed...

    1st to 4th Light

Is it easier to install if you back the car on or did you do that to keep the front from rubbing?

    Clay Bar

Thanks, Ken. I did try that first unsuccessfully, and it's been quite some time since it was mentioned (then only once). I'm not even sure it was on CAC. I'll keep looking, and thanks again for the help.

    Clay Bar

Some time ago, someone posted a trick about folding and refolding the clay to insure there always was a clean surface to work with. Anybody remember what it was?

    window rattle

Do you mean that you just bought the 1997? Or is there a new C5 involved? I haven't seen any complaints on this particular issue, and IIRC, the most of the window adjustments are fairly accessible. The only frequent noise I can recall from that area is the seat belt hitting the door while in its...

update on my Michelin tire experience

FWIW, I had them on an '85 Z51, and they seemed to lag behind the steering a bit. Don't know whether it was tread squirm or a construction issue. Otherwise, I'm sure they would have been great. But that was a completely different size and profile; I mention it only for people with that era car...

    Wow, love carfax.com

Yup, and I second your point about carfax not always being accurate. It's a useful tool, but it's not perfect. You can't be too careful buying a used vette, though.

    Holley 750 dp question

The old hotrod thinking was that in-line filters were preferred because they were less restrictive. If there have been improvements in the insert material, that may have changed.

    1st to 4th Light

Z06's have it. Let me rephrase that: Z06's come with it from the factory.

How do I get rid of water spots?

Sad, but true. And then you miss spots because there's not enough light!
