Hi;
I recently changed the trans fluid on my '05 Z51 6-spd manual (20K miles on it). The old fluid was indeed surprisingly blackened, but there is nothing wrong with the transmission functionality. It shifts smoothly and makes no odd noises.
Incidentally, it does have a transmission oil...
I got the new over-center pedal spring. Looking at it compared to the old spring, the spring clip points are significantly different than the old spring .. so the old one was; a) worn or altered, or b) designed differently.
I installed the new spring and the pedal and hydraulics seem to work...

The local Corvette dealer tells me that the over-center pedal spring GM PN is 10-376347. He told me that the spring PN is the same on all 05-08 C6's (including Z06). He did say it is a "new" part number and so it may be a redesigned part for all of the C6's .... but he was not...
I removed the over-center spring on the pedal to see if the pedal would return .... surprise .... after 2 or 3 pedal pumps the pedal started returning perfectly 100% of the time. Also the stand-still shifting problem seemed to dissappear (!). My thought was that the spring is somehow preventing...
... so the throw-out (and slave) were not done ... turns out the service item actually pertained to an over-center spring replacement. The info I had was incorrect. Thanks.
So the clutch fluid was apparently not adjusted or altered by GM during any of the VIS-listed service actions on the...
Thanks for the continued info C4C5.
...interesting that the throw-out and slave are one assembly. Thats tells me that to do the throw-out, the hydraulics had to be dealt with which would force new fluid to be added and the system to be bled. GM Warranty is saying that this did not happen (??)...
Thanks c4c5;
... yes I understand that the over-center spring must not be [premanently] removed.
In order to eliminate the possibility that the pedal mechanicals are binding (and therefore inhibiting the pedal return), I'm going to do some [temporary] experiments . The a worn or binding...
Thanks for the reply C4C5.
The GM VIS doesn't say that the slave was done ... only the throw-out bearing. According to GM Warranty, the dealer work order for the throw-out work does not show that the fluid was changed at that time. Even if it did, I don't think I'd have any luck getting them...

... painting it so that it looks 100% is not a problem provided the right paint & prep are used. I went to a professional auto paint supply store and got GM paint specifically desgined for plastic interior parts of GM cars. They put it in a spray can for me and provided me with the...
....the dealer says the fluid is "contaminated" ... says it does not "look" right. He says it has a funny black residue that settles out of the fluid. Therefore he suggests that the fluid is not brake fluid and therefore has damaged the hydraulics causing the black residue. As a result, the...
Ugolino;
Are you removing the dash trim piece around the main guage cluster? ... it includes the right and left button panels (for the HUD, DIC, etc) which have the silver trim paint coloring around them. If you do, can you share removal tips with the forum?

...yes I repainted the bezel. The local Corvette dealer could not tell me the color chip code for the silver bezel (... apparently they can only determine codes for things on the car that would be ordered in a specific color). I took the bezel to a local automotive paint specialty shop and they...
managed to take this off yesterday. Amazing simple. The airbag-off lamp plate pops off to reveal 2 screws which are accessed from inside the open armrest enclosure. then the parking brake boot is popped out by lifting it straight up. Behind this there are 2 more screws which hold in the plastic...
...found an article in one of the Corvette magazines which deals with C6 6-spd shifter replacement .... it happens to have a good summary (with pics) of the steps required to remove the bezel.

Hi;
Has anyone out there removed the main center bezel (it wraps around the nav and down around the shifter)?
Before I tackle this by trial & error .... any guidance tips on how it's held in & how it comes out? I'd like to get it out without breaking it.
Thanks.

Hi Tony;
I had a similar problem ... turned out I caused it myself....may be the same as yours. When I bought the car the shipper did not store the car properly and ended up draining the battery. Through boosting it and playing with the door locks (etc) to get it running again ... I...
Thanks ... I think I'm on the same page ... needs to be bled. Is there a way this can be done without taking out the exhaust and the driveshaft cover to get at the bleed valve? I took a quick look and it did not seem obviously accessible without removing these.

Thanks Todd. I was intending on a fluid change ..... since I don't really know when the last change occured. The manual suggests DOT 4 fluid though .... is there some reason you suggest DOT 3?
c4c5; you are right I have not owned the car since new ... so I'm not entirely sure I even have a...
Thanks Patrick.
.... still under warranty ... so I'm going to bring it in to the local Corvette dealer as soon as the roads are a bit dry.
