    Some Show advice

Randy..... shows and classes at each show will vary depending on how many cars are expected to show up, what classes the show sponsor has judges for and whether the show has been registered as a NCCC show (for points accumulation for the owner/club). Most shows set up by NCCC Corvette Clubs are...

Your least Favorite Part about the 81

C3L81...... I have a 82CE rear hatch window in my '81 and it's more of a conversation piece than an enhancement. You have to be VERY careful about leaning in to get/put something if you have any pants with a belt buckle, dangling keys, exposed zipper...... (you get the idea). And after pulling...

Your least Favorite Part about the 81

Janine..... your vent tube may be clogged. It should never do that. When mine clicks off I can barely get a shot glass more of gas in the tank. ........ nut

    Late C3 Seats (Ow!)

Pilot....... I actually use a small square pillow that slides down between my back and the top part of the seat. It fills the void between my wide (and old) shoulders and the seat. The discomfort is especially worse if you have the 4" bolsters and not the 2". My original 2" bolsters (i.e. the...

The Ultimate 1981 Corvette xmas gift!!!

Craig.... my apologies for the enormously tardy response to your post. It got lost in the noise. As for destroying the documentation; the way my dealer in Tucson, AZ explained it to me, it was just a matter of space and need. After a certain period of time the dealerships just ran out of...

I love Tire Rack for all my tire purchases. ....... Nut :D

    Top Speed ?

I got 138 mph on a couple dyno pulls (estimated). The best I ever got on the road was +/- 130 mph. (I converted that silly 85mph speedo over some years ago). It's worth the money. But my '81 has full length headers, no emissions gear at all, K&N and true duals. 118-120 bone stock is probably...

    K&N Air Filter

I ran four dyno pulls a couple years ago on an installed dyno and not a trailer version. The two pulls with the K&N filter set up rang up +4hp difference each pull. Can I tell any difference while driving the car around? No. But I got a nice piece of paper that says I'm 4hp stronger :D...

    Brake calipers

I'd go with stainless steel sleeved rebuilds with the pistons fitted for "O" ring seals and NOT the lip seals. You'll have trouble free braking from then on. Good luck........... nut

    Rear Window Hatch?

Stefan..... thanks for the link. I will look into it. But I'd sure rather have some new plastic trim parts and that pull cable. Those are UV'd (dried) to the point of being very fragile. ....... nut

    Blasphomy!

Here's a Trim and Paint tag. St.L built 81's should look like this. nut

    Blasphomy!

C3L81........ I'm convinced you have factory drips. It's OK. It's all good. If it ever gets noticed by anyone just spin the St. Louis paint story and make it a talking point of your car. Even my custom paint job on my '81 that was put on almost 25 years ago has a couple "drips" on that rear...

    Blasphomy!

C3L81..... you mentioned that the drips were "near" the exhaust tips and not "on" the tips. "ON" would surely lean towards a repaint. However..... since you have an '81, and assuming it's a St.Louis 1981, there is a good chance they are factory "drips". The later in the 1981 build, towards...

    Rear Window Hatch?

I never put the T-Tops in through the rear hatch. I always fold the seats down and put them in that way (even when the hatch popped easily years ago). nut

    Rear Window Hatch?

Hey Guys...... C&C made the kit but went out of business over 10 years ago. Some years ago (rare81) saw one up for bid on eBay. If I remember it went for over $3K (without) any documentation. There are pro's and con's for the window. Is it nice to have? Yes. Does it get a lot of attention...

    need advice quickly

Barry......... I'd give it a pass. Plenty of quality C3's out there you wouldn't have to put a ton of cash in. And I also found over time almost everyone in possession of a Vette knows what it's worth. Sounds like a shame this car was allowed to deteriorate. I can only imagine what it looks...

    need advice quickly

Sagging. Look to see if the car sags to one side or the other. Notorious on many late year C3's. Bring a tape measure with you. Check trim and paint tags with existing colors. Cloth seats often replaced with leather especially if the car really has more than 10K miles (I too am suspicious...

    Newstalgia Wheel

Hey Bob........ you better go with the 255-60x15 tires on an 8" rim because it's going to be a pain getting the 225-70x15's mounted. I'm switching to the 255's in the spring. The 225's just don't look quite right on the wide rims. Also check your offsets. I had to grind away the corners of...

    More electrical problems...

Sounds like a short to GND somewhere in the circuit. You absolutely need an accurate wiring diagram for your specific year C3. My fuel gauge bounces and it's a GND problem that I have never been able to track down in 15 years. Good luck........... nut
