Tifton.... the biggest problem I've had in tracking my history is elapsed time. The dealer my car was delivered to is still in business, but when I contacted them; their response was basically they simply to not have the capacity for record retention that far back. There were no computers back then in dealerships, and almost all documentation with the rare exceptions of some microfish stuff would likely have been long ago destroyed or buried in storage facility. A dead end for sure. I even knew my "original" purchaser was a leasing company and even that dead-ended with a "no longer in business" too.

Good luck in your search.......... nut

Hey Nut,
I contacted Jerry's Chevrolet in Baltimore where my car was originally sold - they told me they didn't have records that old and couldn't tell me anything anyway. I was just kinda curious who did all the butchering and destroying. . .

After sending in my response, this is the email I got from Peggy. It looks like they turned it over to another group as well as charging $50 as stated above:

Did you first check where it was built ?

If it was built in Bowling Green (Ser N° 1G1AY8764B5...), you can get it from the National Corvette Museum (https://www.corvettemuseum.com/library-archives/build_sheets/index.shtml).

what about 1G1AY8766B5

Spartan,
The '5' in the 11th position means Bowling Green, an 'S' there would be St. Louis, you can get a build sheet from the Museum as well as a repro Window sticker. If you need more help, let me know. . .

Craig

awsome, rack up one more reason to take a trip to the museum, as if it having at least one corvette on display wasnt enough, any idea on prices?

SpartanSith

Spartan,
A build sheet is $40, Window sticker is $30 (laminated for another $5) for non members. You need the build sheet to get the sticker tho. There was a link to their site on this one somewhere, not sure if it still is. Good luck!

Craig

Craig.... my apologies for the enormously tardy response to your post. It got lost in the noise. As for destroying the documentation; the way my dealer in Tucson, AZ explained it to me, it was just a matter of space and need. After a certain period of time the dealerships just ran out of space. And the cost to photograph for microfilm was very prohibitive at that time. So they just threw it all out. Kinda sucks considering what little data is available for the St. Louis built cars but whatd'ya going to do? The great thing about getting the dealer invoice from Peggy was that it confirmed (in writing) my primer rarity. And I was lucky enough to have gotten it when they were offering it for free.

later............. nut

hey Nut, sorry for the confusion, I meant the butchering on my car, not the old records!
