    Dr's Mercedes vs Corvettes

The car may be hot, but it doesn't look like it. A lot of cars have four chrome tail pipe extensions and that doesn't impress. The horsepower and torgue stats are impressive but I wonder just how controllable that car is under full power.

    Engine Noise when Cold

Thanks for the right search info. I was using piston and every other combination I could think of except that.

    Engine Noise when Cold

My recently purchased 2000 Convertible came with a 30 day bumper to bumper warranty. I had a ticking in the left front of the engine when cold that sounded like a valve or loose rocker arm. I took it into the dealer and they are going to replace all the pistons (they are paying for it). I am...

Do I need a new Key Fob?

Re-syncing a fob and learning mode are two different things. The learning mode identifies a particular fob as one, two or three and then can match saved settings to that fob. A resync (after changing a battery) only requires holding down the open and lock keys simultaneously for about 10 seconds...

Do I need a new Key Fob?

You may just need to resync the fob. This is required every time you change the battery. Just stand by the car and hold down the lock and unlock buttons together for about 8 to 10 seconds and if successful, the horn will beep. After that, you fob will work normal.

    Convertible Top Question

Ecklers or Mid-America or many other Corvette catelog places have a clear plastic self adhesive strip that you can buy. Ecklers calls it a Vinyl Deck Lid Protector. It is cut to fit your model and is easily removed and reinstalled. It costs $22 plus shipping. www.ecklers.com

    Convertible Top Question

I never did a followup on how I fixed this, but some may be interested. I have some black weatherstrip glue that I used for weatherstrips and gave that a try. It worked perfectly and is still holding. The black glue does not show with the black top.

    Shifting

Wow. So this new paddle shift on the C6 lets you shift without taking your hands off the steering wheel.

Its been 3 years and 10 days since i purchased my C5

I just bought my 2000 and it was out of warranty. I have a 30 day bumper to bumper from the dealer and I will use that next week. The brake rotors need to be resurfaced. I bought a three year,36,000 mile, $100 deductable warranty from the Chevy dealer when I bought the car. It cost $2000. My...

    Shifting

What is the "new" paddle shift? Is this like Chrysler where you can change the automatic to manual mode and shift yourself?

    Toneau Ajar

I found the solution to this (I think). There is a fuse for the tonneau in the fuse compartment under the passanger's feet - 10A, fuse #17. I pulled this to see if it was blown and it was not, but after I reseated it, everything works again. I assume the fuse was not making good contact and my...

    Toneau Ajar

I just started getting an error message "Toneau Ajar", but it really isn't. This prevents me from opening the trunk lid. I have looked for a loose connection and tried to find the pressure switch to see if something is loose, but cannot find anything obvious. Does anyone have experience with...

    Build Sheet

You can also get a copy of your window sticker from the museum and I think you have the option on the build sheet and windows sticker to get a laminated version if you want. I got a copy of both for my '96.

    I Miss (Driving) My C5

Wow. I think I would consider moving. I never liked the snow anyway and if it's so bad you have to store your vette for the winter, I think I would head south!

Color Theory: Are Corvette Owners What They Drive?

Fascinating stuff. I hate to say that I have not really chosen my colors. My first Vette, a 62, I bought off the used car lot at a Chevy dealership I worked in the body shop at. It was silver and I was glad to have it, no matter what the color. My next was a '73 and the only one I chose the...

    New C5 Owner

It's an automatic. My C4 was a 6sp but so far I don't miss the constant shifting, especially in stop and go traffic rush hour traffic. Everything about the C5 is nicer. Someone said in an earlier post that when they get in the car to drive, they just smile. I can't help smiling either.

    reliability?

There is a feature article by Hib on the magnacharger put on a 2002 convertible. Great article with all the details of the mod. Just go to the home page and look in the upper right for the link. It's a good read.

Local Chevy Store Saved Me Major Bucks

The extended warranty is well worth it. Consider that "any" dealer in the nation (should you be traveling) would honor and fix any problem. Last year I purchased a '96 and every repair seemed to start at $500 and go up. And I did not do anything major like a clutch or brakes. While your car is...

    Goodyear to Michelin

I had a similar experience with a Mazda Tribute SUV that had terrible noise from Firestone tires. So bad, we were going to sell the car. I decided to try changing the tires and bought some Michelin tires from National Tire and Battery. I had the same experience you describe - suddenly, the car...

Amount of storage in a C5

The convertible top on the C5 is really easy to raise and lower when compared to the C4. My wife can do it by herself without any trouble. There are no rear latches to undo. As for storage space, the convertible has a lot (especially when compared to the C4) but I'm not sure that two sets of...
