66big blocks used an 11" clutch with a 14" diameter 168 tooth flywheel, EXCEPT L-88 (which used a 10.4" clutch with a 12-1/2" , 153 tooth flywheel). '444' (cast at top) clutch housing designed for use with a 14" flywheel. It was used for 1966 and very early 1967 Corvette with 427 (except L-88)...
I assume you forgot to install the green filters during cluster reassembly??
Get some dark green plastic (or any other color that you want) and stuff it into the cluster holes for the indicators. Sources vary: craft stores, junk yards, Light Brite kid games pieces (cut short and inserted in a...
If you have the tach gear installed and haven't looked at it yet, you may want to pull it out and inspect it and the drive gear (on the distributor shaft).
IMO the hardest lines to get leak free are stainless. After careful inspection then dressing the end with a small metal file to remove irregularities, the leaks are sealed.
I use teflon "tape" film only on block and rad plugs and fittings. I use (sticky on one side) teflon tape on the door...
I'll ask. Do you think braided hose is any less of a fire hazard than any other rubber hose??
I bought an inexpensive steel 3/8 brake line at the local auto store with a flare fitting that fit the carb. I cut off the other flared end and used a tubing bender to get to the fuel line from the...
On most failed meters, you will see a spot on the wire wrap that's burned though. You can solder a small piece of wire across the break and dab liquid insulator on it, or you can unwind one wrap and solder the ends together then dab.
The battery meter is not an ammeter. It reads the slight voltage differences between the horn relay (black with white stripe) and the starter solenoid (black on large post). Both wires provide battery current to the meter contacts at all times.
See the diagram at the bottom of this web page...
Years ago on Power Tour from IL to CA on rte66, my sb developed a noise like a loose valve lifter knocking. After using 2 feet of heater hose to locate the noise as a tiny exhaust leak at the bottom of #3 port, I replaced the gasket in the motel6 parking lot in Albuquerque. It took 21 minutes...
If your top is good, either the pads were not replaced when the top was installed or they are poor material. As stated above, correct replacement requires removing the top.
You can probably cover the pads and shield them from further rub (on the bows) damage by carefully cutting black material...
IMO if you put it in the sun on a warm day for a couple of hours, then drive down a highway at 75-80mph for a couple of hours with the windows closed and the floor vents open, it wil be pulled up enough (by airflow over the car)to stretch for latching when you are done.
I use stainless on everything except suspension, and also use teflon antisieze with no problems. If you use stainless on suspension you may be stretching the bolts. I do Use stainless nyloks on the ends of my rear spring to make the height adjustable, but the bolts are grade8.
Nope, not me - but close. The face from that angle is so similar that I actually had to depend on the context. I haven't seen a yellow c1 with a hole in the hood and I dont own the jacket of blue jeans he's wearing.
Are you guys going to the Corvette funfest next weekend?
Yeah - I've had offers, but when I want to sell my car, it's the big ugly thing in the corner of my garage that makes my roadster a candidate for Top Flight. Without it, the new buyer will have to find another 942 block, and that gets harder by the year. The effect on the value of the car would...
Need more watts? Alterstart in TX USA sells 135 amp rebuilts with a lifetime warranty. I have had a 3 wire (original style) one on my 66 for years with a transpo HD solid state regulator (available from WranglerNW). Both vendors have web sites.
