    '80 frame replacement project - 9/9/07 update

no, the picture you pulled is the owners (Mike) younger brother. Both of Mikes brothers, and his cousin, who happenes to be a CAC member, have been helping out each week alongside Mike and Mikes dad. here is Mike as we were installing the steering system back in.

    '80 frame replacement project - 9/9/07 update

made very nice progress today on the 1980 frame replacement project. We got the entire front suspension installed plus all the steering componetes, front and rear sway bars, and the helicoil in one of the rear differential mounting holes for the rear leaf spring because the hole had been...

9/2/07 update on '80 frame replacement project

thanks guys :) Andy, it's quite an education for all of us actually. Even the guy on the project that has most of the experience of all of us working on this, while having done most everything on his own two C3's has never done a body off or a frame swap, so we are all learning as we go...

9/2/07 update on '80 frame replacement project

got the entire rear suspension installed today. The rebuilt trailing arms, half shafts, and strut rods from Van Steel came out GREAT and we got those, the differential, new KYB GR2 shocks, and the Van Steel composite leaf spring installed along with the Muskegon Brakes on the rear. Muskegon...

Barry K, VNV: Did you survive the storm?

I'm here and Linda and I are OK, thanks for asking. The '65 came through the storm with zero damage. The Tiki Lounge (our tent set-up) was completely destroyed and mangled as were most other tents of course but we will rebuild again next year bigger and better than ever :) Mark's pink...

On schedule but a lot of things still to be done....

good luck Herb! but remember, it's better not to cut corners or rush things. There is always next year to bring the '60 if it's not done.. If you do have it at Carlisle this year it will nice to see it and finally meet you. See you next week!

7/22 update on '80 frame replacement project

Hi Andy thanks for the interest in our project. :) originally we had the goal of try to get the car ready so Mike could drive it to Carlisle this year but that was an unrealistic goal with the time frame and our availabe time to work on it but we are trying to get it ready in time for our...

7/22 update on '80 frame replacement project

sorry, been busy and kinda missed the previous replies until now....... the reason we are using the crossmember off the old frame with the duals is that the exhausr was built and welded and no way to get the old crossmember off without cutting up the exhaust. We don't want to do that. It's...

7/22 update on '80 frame replacement project

yes, this car had a tranny crossmember with the exhaust cutouts and it's running true dual exhaust that someone added previously. It's not the correct crossmember for this car. I suppose someone swapped crossmembers so they could run the dual exhaust. The replacement frame came with the correct...

7/22 update on '80 frame replacement project

Hi Andy yeah, this crack here we found is pretty scary: it's almost all the way thru the passenger side frame rail and the crack continues up along the top of the rail. What you are seeing is where the frame rail joins the front crossmember. I'm thinking one big pothole or speedbump and it...

7/22 update on '80 frame replacement project

feels good to have a great progress day!! this was where we left the chassis last week: and this is where we ended up today after about 5 1/2 hours of work: We got all the suspension and the motor / trans off the old frame finally. Now it's just a matter of getting in all the new parts...

    Need replacement frame

well, a good day working on the '80 project car we are doing the frame swap on. At 8am we had the replacement frame at my buddy's workplace and started the sandblasting. It came out looking great. We than inspected the frame VERY carefully since it did come from a car that had been in a fire...

    Need replacement frame

Piet we are getting the frame sandblasted at no charge so it will be painted on the outside than probably do the inside of the frame rails with thin oil like mystery oil to protect it.

    Need replacement frame

hi C4cruiser to be honest, the last thing we are concerned about is the VIN stamping on the frame. It seems most DMV's don't even know about it and if so where it is or how to find it. Here in DE they don't even look for it. I've spoken to a number of the DMV inspection guys and they told me...

    Need replacement frame

I just got a call and the replacement frame was just dropped off. I'm told that it looks good, nice and solid, no rust issues, no cracks, etc, it's a good solid frame. Will look at it on Sunday and determine if a good wirebrushing and hose down will clean it up or if it needs sandblasting. The...

    Need replacement frame

That would be GREAT. :upthumbs Until we hear from any of the parts vendors we can't count on anything so at this point we need everything. Brake lines would be a great help.

    Need replacement frame

update 7/5/07: Sunday (7/1) was the day we finally were able to get started on this project! With our schedules it took a while for us to be able to start but we made decent progress today for only working a few hours. Worked from about 10am to about 1pm or so. We had myself, Brian from our...
