optispark cap and rotor, whats up?

If your water pump is leaking, there is a high probability that the moisture will enter the optispark, and eventually destroy it. The corrosion doesn't happen overnight. It may take a month, or more, to fail. You may experience slow starting, "back-fires" when accelerating, etc., before a...

re:to do it myself or not-that is the question

If you are able to support your vette safely, then have at it. If you don't own a Chilton manual, you might acquire or borrow one. The instructions and pics are adequate. No need for a GM manual for this operation

    1992 corvette starter problem/question

Replacing components without bench testing them first is not prudent, especially a battery, which can be readily checked to determine its' useful life for free. The reply offered by "scav" is probably the most correct assumption...the starter may be failing. Again, your starter can be bench...

    Electrical Problems

MrMick, congrats on the purchase of the '92....the best advice i can provide this moment is to access the following link and invest in the GM manuals ($70). http://www.helminc.com/helm/homepage.asp?r=http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=helminc

    battery replacement

Only the radio stations and clock will have to be re-set (unless you have a 9 volt batt and adaptor to plug in the lighter socket to save your settings). Here is a reminder for the batt change: http://www.c4vettes.com/electrical.htm

    '86 vs '87 shop manual

The basics of the '86 would carry-over to the '87 model. The one significant change in the '87 was the addition of low friction, roller valve lifters to the L98 engine increasing HP to 240.

    Need help with 84 electrical

From your post, the only thing you have done is disconnected the batt. My first concern would be the tightness of the cables to the batt post. Re-check your batt cables for corrosion and a tight connection. You may read voltage to engine components without having the necessary amperage...
