Find out if the sound is coming from the starter area. Check this site for a wiring diagram....should be similar...http://misterbill.homeip.net/vette/wiring/

Were is the crackling coming from? So you have a sensor somewhere on the engine for the oil temp right...where? Also you installed a sensor for the trans fluid sensor...where?
Try disconnecting the wires you hooked up for the oil temp and trans temp sensor. Doe it resolve the problem? If not...
If the frame is solid BUY THE CAR!!!! You can't get anything for $3000. Spend $7,000 over time and have a decent car. Or you can buy someone elses piece of $hit 73-82 for $8,000 that has a 7 out 10 paint job which you will paint again anyway...an interior they claim is good but still needs to be...
To both of you. The part is servicesible.
The bulb is soldiered to the circuit board. Open it up and replace it.
As for having to hold it on...maybe an easier fix...could be the contact inside the switch is bent...if broken(not likely) different problem.
Only thing I suggest is that when...
Everything comes with the new pump except the big gasket. I can only speak for the 85 pump. It had real detailed instructions with pictures. I paid big bucks...I bought a Delco from the dealer...maybe $180 if I recall.

Goes around thw 9/16. The big one is so you can had tighten the new one.
should have added...you only need about a 1/2 turn with the 9/16 just enought to loosen it off...use the big one by hand after...
Jim
Go with the 85. wiring is the same. They have changed some of the wire fittings on the new pumps...don't matter if its an 82-84-85...you'll need to do a bit of wiring...instruction come with the 85 pump.
Tank doesn't need to come out. Pump will come up through the top where you put the gas...
I posted this at another site. Guy had a similar problem. FWIW it turned out to be his injector fuses...they looked good on inspection but were actually fried.
Assuming you have 9-13 psi it could be the HEI module (according to the shop manual). Book says no fuel from either injector check the...
Not sure if the oil guage pinning when disconnected is right. do you have power at the injectors?? Do you have a test light? Test for power on each of those wires.
Jim
Ya...my wife doesn't get it. She is always wondering what I'm doing on these boards.
Simple fact is a manual tells you WHAT to do but those that have actually done it tell you HOW to do it. Nothing like first hand experience.
It took me two years and a lot of reading to understand my car. I...
Reynold,
If its one thing I've learned its you need to be real specific in what these crossifres are doing. I see in one place you said you are getting spray from one injector and at another place no spray from either.
Lets go back to the beginning and this is important. Open the hood take...
You are right it shouldn't run. I'm just wondering if his will spray right with the sender unplugged then stop when the signal is finally sent.
Also try clearing the computer memory by pulling the fuse in the battery compartment.

If you get 3 12's followed by 3 12's there are no codes stored. The Stored codes are between the 3 12's. So a code 42 would be 3 12's followed by 42 followed by 3 12's signalling the end of the test.
The oil pressure sensor is capable of shutting off the gas. Its weired how it works. I and...
Spray pattern should be an even cone shape...pulses continuously. If the system is working right on cold start up you should get/hear a prime pulse for a split second. You should also hear the pump turn on for 2 seconds just before every start up.
Fuel pump does supply 9-13 psi. Rear TBI...
Thats odd that they work sometimes. Trace the hoses. They start from the intake driverside rear. Look for leaks? Do you hear any hissing?
I just saw a drawing...I'll see if I can paste it.
Jim
I think the 84 pump is as weak as the 82. You are better off going with an 85 pump. You'll get better performance. The 82-84-85 pumps are all designed the same.
Its more or less a plug and play install. The newer pumps have an improved connector for the wiring so there is a bit of splicing...
