Undercoating a Vette
I bought a Corvette that had been undercoated, perhaps when new. The end result was that the undercoating peeled away from the frame and sand and salt was trapped behind it. Some major rust problems because of that.

I've always put a valve in the hose to the heater and shut the hot water off from the heater core in the summer. You may also have some issues in your cables to the doors.

Something to remember is that the bracket that John shows can be a killer for tires that are too wide. That happened more than once in the early years before restoration was prevalent and guys were sticking wide wheels and big tires on for traction.

I've not been doing much in the Corvette game for awhile but hope to get more active this coming year. Waayyy, too many projects. We need to get the cars together some event next year and spin a few tales. errrrr should I say...
It's been awhile since I looked, but I think that the 63-64 trailing arms had a different "pad" for the jounce bumper to hit than the disk brake car trailing arms.

Tom, you aren't alone in your admiration. I've always loved that car too, and from the crowd around it at the Monterey Historics, (hard to get a picture) it appears that it is highly popular.

Six taillights
Greetings
As an original owner that installed the extra tail light I can speak from my experiences with many others of that era.
The Corvette "dream cars" all had six lights in them so that's why I added the extra one. Some made one of them a backup light but most of us just...
My local Chevy garage can't seem to find the part numbers for the 72 Vette LT-1 aluminum valve covers. Can anyone provide them to me? Also the part numbers for the decal that goes on one of them and the rubber oil plug?
Thanks

Hi all
I stopped working on my daughter's 72 LT-1 Convert to work on some metal cars and am now just getting back to it. The existing radiator support has several really weak places on it and I was thinking of buying a reproduction unit.
Can anyone tell me where they bought theirs and how...
My son and I just wired up a custom Merc. We went with a 21 Circuit EZ Wiring kit and have lots of wires left over for future enhancements, like A/C, elect doors trunk, PW, PDL, etc.
One thing not mentioned in the directions was that you should cap off all bare wire ends not used before...
You might want to ask the vendors how long their straps are. I used a borrowed lift kit from a friend and it worked fine when in a garage with very high ceilings, but for my current project they were waaaay too long to be of use with the engine hoist. See picture.
I used some tie down straps...
Like IH2LOSE, I used an engine hoist to pull the body off of my daughter's LT-1 convert. It worked just fine, don't need a lot of ceiling height and folds up for easy storage.
I've also jacked up the body on an old racer and ran 2x4's under it then dragged the frame out from under it. Of...

I dressed the spindle nut several times on a flat surface and emory cloth until 100lbs torque lined up the hole perfectly.
Thanks Gary

After setting up the wheel bearings sometime ago, (.002) I'm just now getting back to working on my daughters car. When I torqued the spindle nut to 100lbs, the cotter pin won't go in. See first picture. On this spindle there is only one place for the pin to go instead of two like on the other...
