Got my head in my rear end...

and I am trying to replace the fluid. I bought 2 units of posi fluid and 2 units of diff fluid. I jacked up the left rear and crawled under to have a look. All I saw was spring and skid plate. Above that, after some wiggling around, I saw the inspection /fill hole for the diff. I did not see a...

    Radio issue

I have an Alpine radio in my 78. It has a power antenna. I tore the console apart to fix the reverse lockout. I got that fixed and got everything back together again. Now I have a radio problem. It is eating 3A fuses like M&Ms. There is a red wire that comes from the power source to a 3A...

    Need reverse lock out parts

I need the shaft (or key) for the reverse lockout on a 78 / 350/ automatic.

    Bit by bit

It's been a busy week. I have been doing some minor stuff on the imposter. I removed the stock air cleaner and put in one of those chrome units with the 360 degree paper filter in the middle. It looks like a chrome cookie. :-) I can feel a differnce in how she breathes now. I need to find a plug...

    reverse lock out

The reverse lockout does not work on my 78. There is nothing I have to do to move the shifter into, through, or out of, reverse. I almost went from Drive(3) to reverse last year at the drag strip. That would not have been good. In your humble opinion, what would be the most likely culprit. I've...

    Too funny

I called around town trying to find someone who would replace the rear wheel bearings in my 78. The local dealer quoted $800. I called another shop, they would wouldn't touch a Vette. A 3rd shop never returned my call. The 4th shop shop said, "Sure. $250 a wheel." I dropped the car off yesterday...

    Kinda bummin right now

I live in a relatively small town. I called the local exhaust shop. I was trying to get an estimate of the charges for them to put on "true" dual exhaust, after I get some headers, and not include the cats. Their answer; "Ain't gonna happen. $10,000 fine." They said the exhaust has to be 'bone...

    Electronic ignition

The car is sounding like it needs a tune up. I am thinking that this may be the time to switch over from points to electronic ignition. Are there any recommendations for a 78 L48? I assume it is a job that a shade tree mechanic can do.

    Clunking sound

I am still having a 'clunking' sound coming from the back of the Vette. When I first got it, the sound was there all the time. I replaced the rear calipers (less than 1,000 miles ago) and it went away. Now, it comes back, but only after I have been driving for a while. Maybe an hour or more...

    Air cleaner question

My 78 (L48) has the air cleaner but does not have the tube and nozzle at the radiator. Which do you think is the better way to go? 1. Buy a new hose and radiator funnel 2. Buy a new K&N set up which has the open sides. I am looking for a little more oomph to my acceleration.

    Traitor....

It looks like I may be getting rid of my '78. The car that I wanted to buy , before the Vette, is back on the market. I need your estemmed opinion on a couple things. 1. Price - I paid $9500 for it last Spring. It has 66,000 miles on it. It pulled to the right when I got it. I figured it...

    Draggin sound(?)

I am still experiencing (albeit randomly) a 'dragging' sound from the rear of the car. I thought it was a sticking caliper. I changed both calipers. The sound seem to go away. Then, yesterday, while out on a 100 mile ride (to burn off the winter gas) it started again. I was about 70 miles into...

    Non-functional center console

Has anybody made a center console that is 'functional'? All I can find are padded armrests type consoles. I would like one that would open up so I could store a few things. Marketing op?

    Now what???

Yesterday I stopped by the garage where I kept my Vette over the long winter. I got a new battery for it and wanted to start it and let it run for a while; get the fluids moving again. I have to move it today. Under the car, running to the drain, was a puddle of reddish, oilish, fluid. It...

    Gymkhana suspension

Greetings all from the great white north...:w I sent in to GM and got a copy of the original BOS on my '78. I was looking over the options it had and noticed that it came with the Gymkhana option. :) I assume that is a good thing. Are there things I need to be aware of before I do any...

    Vicarious Vette

Well, here it is. Minnesota. Late January. Colder than a well digger's destination. The Vette is in hibernation. The seats are at the upholsterer's shop getting a new lease on life. The battery is in the basement. My cabin fever is beginning to stir. I need to "wrap my ass in fiberglass" I...

    Reverse lock out

My '78 has an automatic. The shift lever has a wooden knob that moves up and down. I assume it is supposed to be a reverse lockout. If it is... it doesn't. When I took it to the drag strip, I was trying to manually shift it and almost threw it into reverse at over 50 mph! Not a good thing. I...

Corvette Weekend Projects: Maintenance and Repair How-Tos for 1968-1982

Does anybody have this book? Would anybody recommend it? I am a bit of a novice.

    Seat frames...

I have a '78 and the frames on the seats are damaged. The leather is still in good shape. I have come across a guy who has a 'vette with a smashed up front end. He is willing to sell me the seats from it. I only wants the frames. Since I can't find any anywhere, what would you think is a good...

new air filter? Or old intake?

I found, from running at the strip yesterday, that I can gain 1.5 seconds by removing the air filter and top plate. I was thinking about replacing the stock unit with the K&N unit that has the "open" top. However, as I was looking in my Haynes manual, I saw an air tube starting from a collector...
