If not for the trans tunnel requiring some fabrication and modification, the ZF is a very straightforward upgrade since it was an OEM trans starting in 90(?). So everything else is just stock.

The trans tunnel will need to be modified regardless of which trans is used. I posted some pics in a previous thread. The ZF retains a stock look and uses all stock pieces. The speedo works altho the polarity of the VSS connector requires switching.

Why use a Tremec when the ZF was an OEM trans for the C4?

All the reasons why when my clutch gave out on my 84, I ditched the Doug Nash and TRANSplanted a ZF-6 instead. Transformed the car.

If you're going to replace it, then do an LSx motor. Upgrade rear end to D44. Having said that, maybe you might want to think about ditching the 82 and buying a C4 ZR-1. You can buy one for just about what the conversion would cost along w the effort. Drive one, you'll buy it.
