Getting ready to tackle the paint on my 78. Worked out a pretty good deal with a local body shop to paint and I get to do most of the muscle with his guidance. The vette has been painted white two times and am planning on soda blasting down to the original primer and going back to the factory...
Transmission is a 200 4R. Clunk may not be the best word to describe the downshift. Its just more noticeable going from 2nd to 1st than when its downshifting from the other gears. The shifter is in OD. I haven't tried it other gears.
Upgrade of the tranny is complete. Only minor issues with Monster sending the wrong torque convertor lock out plug. Once they got that hooked up and its like driving a totally different car. Shifts points are solid. I notice a slight bang or clunk when tranny is downshifting from 2nd to 1st...
Sorry I can't help as my interior lights stay on all the time. I have been told the timer is located behind the glove box. I don't know what it looks like, but I haven't gotten around to trouble shoot that problem yet.
What is the thread pitch for the bolt that holds the TV cable in place on the tranny. I know it takes a 10mm wrench but there are a couple of metric sizes that take 10mm wrench. I have a M6-1.00 x 20 and it won't tighten up. It threads in and isn't cross threaded but it isn't the correct size.
Transmission is installed but I have a few minor problems to get complete the project. Wasn't to bad to get it in place. Slide it on a piece of card board under the tunnel. Placed a 4x4 under the torque converter and my helper and I raised the tail end and got the motorcycle jack under the pan...
Tach and Speedo cluster can be removed from the front. Remove the bezel, remove the other plastic front piece, then 3 screws hold the tach in place. The tach has threaded posts in back that make the connection with the clips on the circuit board. Could be one of the clips not making connection.
Will check with the auto parts store tomorrow about possible replacing the lines and fittings. Hope they have some in stock as we have a big work day planned. Flywheel is ready to go so hopefully we can get the transmission reinstalled.
Well phase one is well underway. Old transmission is out. Only a few minor problems, the cooling lines wouldn't come loose at the trans. Ended up cutting the lines. Dropped the cap off the u joint when removing the drive shaft, so the needle bearings ended up in the oil dry. Getting the dip...
I have a used passenger panel. This panel was Red with black carpet on bottom which I tried to dye red but never got it to look right. $25 plus shipping.
How challenging is it to change the transmission out using jack stands in 78? Removing stock transmission and installing a Monster Heavy Duty 200 4R arriving next week and trying to prepare for unknown challenges. Any special tools? Don't have access to a lift unless I wait a couple of months.
