Why would GM design a thermostat for the 97-03 Corvettes that have the thermostat spring traveling horizontal? See attachment "Thermostat mod.jpg".
This is the way it used to be installed back when the small block started in 1955. See attachment "Thermostat Old mod.jpg".
The reason I brought this up was I noticed higher coolant temperatures the last two summers versus the first summer when the car was new. Changing the thermostat seemed to bring the coolant temperature ranges back to where they used to be. I wish they would have left the design the way it was. I feel it was much more reliable and it used to cost $3.98 to change versus $45.14 they currently charge for a over engineered thermostat. Anybody have any explanation for the new design?
Thanks in advance for your help.
