03 Z06 A/c Questions

Can anyone tell me how to check out whether my a/c is working correctly?

Ambient temp 60 F
When I first start driving and have the a/c in the auto mode and turn the temp up to 85 the a/c light is still running. Why doesn't it go off?

Does anyone know the procedure on how to check the system out?

Ken,

First, welcome to the CAC.

GMJunkie is right. In auto mode, the system will sometimes turn on the A/C (even when it can be quite cold out) when it determines that the moisture level in the air warrants it.

The GM A/C system is strange and it's logic seems to be somewhat undocumented. It will switch the A/C on when it is chilly out, and switch from fresh to recirc when it decides to. I think this is by design, and has to do with the moisture content in the air.

If you find a procedure for testing it, let us in on it.
