100 octane gas

The station done the street started selling 100 octane racing fuel for $4.50/gal. Anyone know if this would make a difference? I have a hypertech Thermo chip. They say it is programed for 93 octane. I've been putting 92. Would it be worth while for racing only?

Also my car has been backfiring as it shift from 1st to 2nd at WOT. Any ideas as to what the problem is? I'm changing the wires next.

Hi there and welcome. The octane ratings of fuel had been talked about in the '68-'82 Forums. On the backfire, do a thorough check of the entire ignition system as a process of elimination. If that doesn't solve the problem, post again.

BTW, where exactly is Laguna Hills,CA?

Thanks guys, I'm putting in Taylor wires (got them half price) and Bosch +4's this weekend. We'll see what happens.
