If you are thinking of advancing the base timing to try and increase throttle response and performance without doing anything else, I would not recommend it. Buy the proper hardware / software and tune the computer the proper way.
1. How? Wouldn't the KS retard the timing once it hears the knocking? IIRC, a tuner told me he could set the base timing to whatever he wants. The program is dumb and won't know. In fact, he did say that he can write it for say 2 or 3 degrees off stock base of 6 but since it is in the chip, if you go to a shop and they take off the distributor, they will probably put it back to 6 and your performance will change.
2. Instead of jury rigging the thing, won't it be better to simply address it in the PCM program itself? This way, you will not be doing an "across the board" change. You can change it to the spot you want. I would think that would be better, don't you?
