15 in Torq Thrust II's and Torq Thrust D's

Welcome to the area. Nope, never bought the rims. Never got an answer that made sense. The 71 front fenders are tighter than the later sharks so I'm very concerned about rub. I've also tried on other sets of rims with the 3 an 3/4 backspace and wasn't happy with the clearance in the rear. So I just gave up and blasted and painted the rally rims.

There are a few Corvette clubs in the area, just google Dallas or Texas Corvette clubs. Also www.hotrodhappenings.com has a list of cruise nights which I like better. My son likes to see all the hot rods and muscle cars in addition to the Vettes.

Let me know if you find a set that fits. Have a good holiday.

Trying to find rims was very dificult!!! It took me 3 times to get a set that I liked and fit correctly. I ended up purchasing a set of Torque Thrust D's 15x 8.5 with a 3.75 back space adn a -24 offset. The offset was the most important measurement because of the Vette brake calip.

I ma now in the process of lowering it a few inches becuae the new tires are a lower profile.

Do you know of any good mechanics in the area? I am looking at new heads and a cam upgrade??

Thanks.:beer

As a number of people have previously posted, you can't get a quality tire for the C3's in a 15" wheel size. I searched and the best fitment for my 1980 was 17" TTII's Series 505. Here's the link http://www.americanracing.com/appguide/final.asp?section=app&detail=5057861&car=155&descript=17X8+TORQ%2DTHRUST+II+5X4%2E75&picture=505&make=CHEVROLET&model=CORVETTE++1968%2D1982&Comments=Check+Fit%2C+Watch+Caliper&softid=vette72&sort=72&brand=americanracing

The wheels were test fit on the car before the tires were mounted to check for caliper clearance. The wheels fit perfectly with no spacers.

The original tires were 255/60-15's on all corners. My new tires are 255/50-17. The new tires are exactly the same diameter as the old 15" tires. The 17" wheel/tire combo made a huge difference in the handling characteristics. You will need to run slightly smaller tires in the front because of tire rub at full turn. You can do it...get the 17" TTII's!! Here's a link to mine.

Cee,

I'm game. I'm actually in town for a change as well. I've got family coming for the weekend. Maybe we can get together with 76 the Thursday or Friday before New Years weekend. I need to take the 71 out and burn up some gas anyway. I'm really close to pulling the trigger on an engine swap. It all depends what's under the tree for Christmas. If I get the L88 hood I'm thinking on going with the RamJet 350.

Chime in and we can coordinate with 76.

76 as far as mechanics in the area that's always an interesting call. I try to do all the work myself but I'm not too sure about dropping a C3. The guys at Corvettes of Dallas on I-35 north of Dallas would be a place to start. Tell Jeff the parts/shop guy that Jon with the 71 Steel Cities Gray convertible and the Yellow Z06 told you to call him.

If you can't find their number on the web I'll bring it with me when we get together.

Brandywine,

Thanks for the specs. The problem I have is that I already put new rubber all around when I bought the car since the old bias ply tires had to go for safety. I'll probably get around to going 17 inch but the motor, trans, and paint are going to be first on the list. I love your fuel injection set up. I may contact you for more advice when I pick my motor in Jan/Feb.

Have a great holiday.

Friday works for me. I'm on vacation. Probably bring my son with me. I'm not real familiar with the Argyle/Dento area. I'll leave it to you and Cee to pick a location. A first glance Hooters in Denton looks close to both of you. I don't mind the drive. Cee, suggestions? Anyone else in the area is welcome too.

Let me know we can do lunch. Pick a good time.

Let's not forget Twin Peaks.:rotfl They are ahead of Hooters if you know what I mean. They are located at the junction of 35E and 121. i think that is close for all, but I am open for the location.

Whiplash, I too love the Torque Thrust D look but the 3.75 backspacing would put the wheel outside the lip. Check out P.S. Engineering. They are expensive but a high quality wheel. Many racers use them. I have a D lookalike on my 69 that are 15 by 8.5 with 4.25 inch backspace but he can make them with less backspace if you need them.

They do stick out, but very small, mine maybe stick out 1/2 in, which is not that bad (personal opinion). Actually, the thread does not stick out, but the actual sidewall does (1/2). I have the TTD's 15x8.5x3.75 with 255x60's in the rear and 245x60's in the front.

Happy holiday :beer

Merry Christmas guys. 76 gave me the scoop on Twin Peaks. I'm all game. (Sorry I confused you with Cee in my PM 76, my fingers got ahead of my brain on the keyboard).

If you can PM an address and suggest a time I'll be there this Friday.

Hope you all had a great day and Santa was good to you.
