Hello fellow Vette owners would it be alright to put on 17X8 wheels on a 91 Vette any info would be great. The vette is only used for driving around the city on sunny days only Thanks Danno

Just might have to use a narrower tire. I would wonder if a 1.5 inch narrower wheel with such a short sidewall could handle an 11.5 inch tire. Maybe a 10".

Vettes from 88 thru 93 were designed to run a 9.5" wheel at all 4 corners (save for the 90-95 ZR1 rear wheel). The P275/40-ZR17 tire was the standard size tire for that wheel width. Using a 8" wide wheel will keep you from mounting that size tire. The front wheel width changed to 8.5" wide in 94 to help issues with tracking when the car got into ruts created in the road surface due to heavy traffic wear.

The Corvette Engineers selected that size after a lot of study and testing. They could have just as easily used a narrower wheel that was similar to a F-body width and saved on the cost of wheel development and tires but chose to use a wider tread width and aspect ratio to meet the performance capabilities of the car.

IMHO, stay with the factory size.

You may find that some tire shops even may refuse to install narrower wheels and tires than what was specificed for the car.

Welcome to the forum Danno :beer I think 8" is just too narrow for your car :( Besides the fact that it likely won't perform as well, it prolly won't look good either. And lets face it, no one wants to drive a Vette that doen't look :cool Additionally, you really need to take the wheel offsets into consideration on these cars. Ya just can't throw any old wheels on em :w

The largest tire you can legally mount on a 8¨ rim is a 245, over here you would never get the car past inspection if the tire was too big for the wheel.

Thanks fellow vette owners will stick to the OEM size and look for other chrome rims that are the right size thanks again Danno
