Question: 1954 Corvette in Mexican Road Race

Anybody have any info on the whereabouts of the 54 Vette that was raced in the 1954 Mexican Road Race? It had Illinois license plates on it in a photo I saw. Was reported to have lost a connecting rod & was a no finish.
Has it ever been found?

Someone should track it down. That would be a cool Documentary to watch on TV. I saw an advertisement for a show called "The Car Hunter" where this guy tracks down exotic, potentially valuable cars to buy and flip them. It would be cool if this car was found, restored and displayed where everyone could appreciate it as an important piece of Corvette racing history. If I was retired, I would consider doing it myself. Are there any theories with substance about the car? Is it thought to be lost in Mexico somewhere?
