1956 Distributor

I recently purchased a 1956 distributor and it was advertised as having the correct flat spot on the shaft. The part number is 1110879 which is correct for my 56, but what is so important about this "flat spot"? Thanks for your help.

The flat allows the oil to flow to the top end. You must also make sure the distributor is installed in the proper position so the oil can come up. Your camshaft also needs a flat on the rear lobe. This system was changed in 57. Hope this helps!
