Educate me, the 63 originally was produced with fiberglass headlight buckets, but in January they were replaced with metal...is this a correct statement, does anybody have the full story. Love to hear more about this...does Phil Nolan go into this all?

Just got my 63 back from Corvette Specialist, they did a great job. Going into the paint shop for 5 months for total repain. It will be ready this summer for showtime

Sorry for the purists, but goin with clearcoat, using PPG. I think for the amount of money I will be shelling out, clearcoat will be the best bet. He is also going to correct previous body work, and as he said it will be better then factory...and thats what I want...again sorry purists, but I much rather have the car the way Chevy intented to have it not the way it came from the factory. I can't stand poor fit on trim and doors etc.

I will keep you posted.....

I don't think you have to apologize for doing your car your way. It's your choice and a good choice in my opinion.

I used to teasingly apologize for my car while spending more time on the C1-C2 forums than the C3 forum despite the fact I've never owned C1 or C2 but a wise man told me to have pride in my ride so I'm passing the lesson on!

Couldnt tell you if its right or wrong but I do know my june of 63 car has the fiberglass buckets :w

Fiberglass headlight buckets were used on almost all 1963 cars; they were phased in somewhere near the end of production at around serial number 21000, which was about 500 cars short of the end of production. So they would only appear on cars produced in the latter part of August, and even then, some fiberglass buckets were probably still being used in production as the metal ones were placed into the assembly plant parts inventory.

If by "Phil Nolan", you really meant "Noland Adams"... no, I don't think it's mentioned in his book.

Noland Adams...stand corrected thank you. You answered my question. After digging deeper I found my buckets were replaced with aluminum buckets, due to front right of car being damaged back in 1968. They were replaced with 1964 buckets off a 64 coupe. After talking to many people, since the fiberglass are almost impossible to find, I think I will just save the money and keep my metal buckets that work and look just fine. Many thanks for educating me on this....sometimes this NCRS Judging Guide drives me crazy......but after all, isn't it all really about driving and enjoy the car. Regards all....

Did you used to do civil war re-enacting?

If you want originality, I have a '63 fiberglass headlight bucket. Let me know if you are interested.
